Leaked: photos of pit bulls killed due to Denver ban

My family has raised dogs of all types for over 70 years and the only breed we do not trust are pitbulls. These animals can NEVER be trusted around children. I have visited too many friends in the hospital and held their hands as they recover from horrible wounds caused by these dogs. Please listen to those of us who know and do not have these dogs around children.

Pits are very smart dogs. Get to know one before you pass judgement. I am a college grad. and have 4 pits that love dearly. One dead mauled child isn't worth having these monsters in society. Pat yourselves on the back when one of your "gentle dogs" eats one of the neighborhood children. If one ever moves close to my house, I have a great recipe for pittbull meat balls;  "break drum shavings, ground beef and anti freeze" (feel free to share).

People didn't have the option to save their pets yet made to just let them die! Whoever made this decision I hope they die a slow VERY painful death. This is sick and to be honest no better than the Holocaust!!!!!

Why was this allowed?  What Nazi warlord is presiding over this City?????  Why were not these folks allowed to take their dogs OUT of the area????  I am sorry.  This is unacceptable behavior for supposedly "civilized" town employees.......  OMG may God forgive them for their ignorance......  they need to loose their jobs!  All of them involved....

This is such a sad sight for the owner of any breed of dog. I see puppies, maybe no older than 4 or 5 months in these pictures. Also saw one that looks just like my friends APBT that died of cancer. An entire breed doesn't deserve to be exterminated. This is mass genocide. I have been bitten by a lab and a sheep herder, I would never allow their extermination either. This for myself is personal considering I own 3 APBT, however, my comment here is unbiased as I say that this is just not right, for ANY breed to be treated this way.

I hope you Democrats feel especially proud over this act of despicable lunacy. And it is indeed the mis-named "progressive" lunacy of your party that drove this heinous act, and continues to do so. The Democrats that voted for this should be forced to march along "pit bull row" and view these stacks of bodies, to be made aware of the consequences of their actions, instead of being allowed to hide from their atrocity and pretend nothing is going on. I used to love Denver. But I would not even consider visiting it anymore after these vile people took over the local politics. The most loving and fun dogs I have ever owned have been one "bully" breed or the other.

We need to stop this!! We call Hitler a monster and this is no different then what he was trying to do!! It looks like the holocaust all over again! All because they are dogs and not humans does NOT make this right or ok!!! How can they get away with this?? There should be a pile of the real animals that did this. How do you sleep at night knowing you're a murderer that just killed innocent dogs for no reason at all!! You are the ones that should be removed from society!! I would be more afraid to run into you on the streets then any pit bull. We are more dangerous and deadlier than any other species!! Maybe we should eliminate our selves! Every breed of dog, animal and human has the ability to attack and can kill especially when we feel in danger or to protect the ones we love and are loyal to. What makes them any different??? I have 3 pits and if anyone tries to hurt them in any way I will protect them as if it was one of my kids. I will do for them the same that they would do for me and my family!!

These dogs will likely end up in a rendering plant.  Don't feed your pets food with generic meat names in the ingredients like, meat and bone meal, meat by products and animal fat.  Denver sucks for dogs.  I hate their breed ban.  I know many people with great pit bulls or dogs that may be mixes.  Denver can take your dog and kill it even if the dog just looks like a pitbull.

This is Horrific!!! How could they be so cruel.? I would move and never return..  Denver, another disgusting law.. People need to petition more.. rules can be changed with diligence and constantly being that squeeky wheel. To take away a person's pet is like taking their child.. And.. what are they teaching kids? The owners trian the dogs to do these things the pitbulls are good dogs and loyalty dogs and I have one pitbull that loves everyone and he came a shelter and he was in a dog fight

I think that there should be a heavier jail time and higher fines for those that hurt and cause these dog to fight. I don't believe that people like Mike Vick, DMX, and all the other popular people that our youth look up to get enough punishment for thier wrong doings in this world and they treat animals as if they don't matter... Ummm how would you like it if it was your KID>>>>> How would you like to be drowned, hung, electericed, beat, not feed and put into a ring with your same kind only to be forced to fight to the death. Understandingthe Misunderstood Pit Bull

                As the man drives up the drive there is apit bull standing at the front door; as he gets out of the car the dog beginsto bark incisively.  The closer to thedoor the man walks toward the door, the harder the dog barks, and the doorbegins to rattle and shake due to the dog jumping on it. Then on one final jumpthe door springs open as the dog hits the screen handle, and out the door heruns barking, mouth open teeth showing straight toward the man. He jumps andlaunches right at the man’s chest….

                When reading this scenariothere is, fearful feeling that this man is about to be attacked. For most ofthe human race this type of scene evokes that feeling, not because of the factthat they know what is in the mind of the dog but because of the informationthat is expressed in the news and the press. Most know very little about thisbreed of dog, only about the bad that the press publish or by the badinformation that one person tells another. It is important to have someimportant information about the breed before passing judgment or condemning abreed.  Even though pit bulls have beenhistorically used for fighting pit bulls make great police dogs, as well assearch and rescue dogs and more. Many judgments are made about this breed basedon myths, which is why it is so important to know the true facts.

 It is important for everyone to a betterunderstanding about Pit Bull Terriers, and how with the right training and lovethese animals are truly an excellent, loyal and wonderfully loving dog.

                TheRoman Empire 50 AD., Emperor Claudius began importing fierce dogs from Britainto use in the Roman Arena. These dogs were composed of Mastiffs and terrierbreeds (Real).  Later the offspring ofthese animals were shipped all over including France and Spain, becomingrenowned fighting dogs in these countries. This history is dated back and displayed in artist paintings; the termbulldog was first introduced in a 1631 painting. The name arrived from the factthat the dogs were used as bait dogs for bulls and bears. Another thing thatlearned from these art images is that there were at least two distinctlydifferent dogs within the classification. The images show some of the dogs wereshort, broad, and heavy boned with undershot jaws, similar to what is known asan AKC Bulldog. The other dog found in these paintings had less aggressivefacial features, longer legs and a smaller more normal bite as with our modernday Pit Bulls (real). Over two centuries later England developed a law thatwould make the sport of baiting illegal and the activity eventually dead off. However,another deadly blood sport was developed and that was dog fighting. Since thedogs that fought needed to be faster and smaller the handlers created crossbreed that met these traits. Over the next several years these dogs becamefamily dogs that were used as working dogs (Real).

                Shortlyafter the United Stated Civil War Pit Bulls were imported from England toAmerica as they had may traits that Americans found useful. It was here inAmerica that the breed was truly named American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT)(Real).In England there were blood lines that still existed for the sole purpose ofdog fighting; these dogs are known as the Staffordshire Bull Terriers. Then in1835 the English Dog Registry recognized this as a kennel breed, while the APBTwas recognized as a breed by the United Kennel Club in 1898 (red, 2006).

In America theAPBT became a very popular breed and were used by many companies as amascot.  For example, there was apropaganda poster during WWI depicting an APBT with an American flag bandanaaround his neck representing America. RCA and Buster Brown Shoe Company alsoused the pit bull as a company symbol. Everyone that grew up with Our Gang, aka The Little Rascals’, shouldremember Pete, or those who read the books by Laura Wilder Little House will remember Jack the Ingalls work dog, both of whichare Pit Bulls.  Pit Bulls were also ownedby many famous people such as Theodore Roosevelt and even Helen Keller (Real).During the Civil War the 11th Pennsylvania Infantry had a Pit Bull bythe name of Sallie who later became regarded as a war hero (Brotherwise, 2009).Sallie, of the 11th, served as a loyal mascot she joined theInfantry as a pup and grew to think of then as family. She would place herselfat the end of the line during a fight she would bark furiously to the alert the11th of the upcoming Southern Troops. In 1863, a few days after thebattle at Cemetery Hill, she was found lying with the dead of her regiment,starving and dying. The others from the infantry nursed her back to health andSallie served with her family for two more years.  Sallie was killed two months before the warat Hatcher’s Run in Virginia. She was considered a loyal comrade and was buriedwhere she fell. There is now a monument of the 11th Pennsylvania Infantryand a stature of Sallie lies with a soldier as no one wanted her to beforgotten (Chadwick, 2009).

                WithSallie in mind there are modern day dogs that are out there serving to helpprotect their country. In April of 1999, People Weekly Magazine features anarticle about a pit bull by the name Popsicle. This dog was found, as a puppy,wrapped in a black plastic trash bag in a freezer during a drug arrest, hencehis name. Ironically he became a US Customs Narcotic Canine-Enforcement Dog andwon a medal in March of 1999 for helping to seize 3,075 of cocaine from apineapple truck (Pet, 2006).

 Some other police dogs that should bementioned are Brie, a narcotic detection dog, Sampson-who thrives on findexplosives, and Pickles who also works as a narcotics office for US Customs atthe Canadian border (Lawdogs, 2007). Police dogs are not the only service Pit Bulls that are recognized asheroes.

 In 2003, after the shuttle disaster, NASAhandpicked one pit bull, Dakota and her handler Kris to assist in finding the astronauts;they were also involved in the search for Laci Peterson. Kris Crawford is a pitbull enthiust who uses her three certified search and rescue pit bulls toeducate the public about the breed as well as teaching children about caninesafety.  Kris and her three girls;Dakota, Cheyenne, and Tahoe; have been acknowledged and received many awardsincluding one from our current president for their service and bravely. ThePrestigious Presidential Volunteer Lifetime Service Award was presented to thefoursome by President Barak Obama. The dogs not only help search for missingAlzheimer’s Patients but they also comfort and show love to sick and disabledchildren, all while other members of their breed are put in a ring to fight.Dog fighting is considered a blood sport that is also a big money business. Dogfighting is an age old sport that was started by using dogs to bait bulls whichlater turned into ring fighting between two dogs. Dog fighting is a sport thatrequires either a strong stomach or a cold dead heart. Even as dog fighting isillegal, it is still happening everywhere, even among some famous people. Dogsthat are used for fighting are extensively trained, from running for hours on atreadmill to putting them in a ring with a smaller less aggressive breed sothat the trainee can get the feel of the kill. They are left hungry and theyhave very little contact with other people other than their handlers. Theauthor has had personal experience with getting a puppy from a local known breederthat breeds dogs that are used for fighting. This puppy was fed cocaine andblack powder at only three weeks old in order to develop a mean distemper aswell as to make them a crazy.

 Over the last few years there have beenseveral fighting rings busted, none of which was made more public then that ofNFL star Michael Vick.  The home site ofVick in Surry County Virginia was the home grounds for Bad News Kennels, where many lethal fighting dogs were bred. Duringthe search there were more than 60 dogs removed from the grounds, there werealso several dogs that were found dead or dying. The dead dogs were found tohave been drowned, hung, starved, and even electrocuted. The ones that weredying were just left after being injured in a recent fight without medical care,just left to die in pain.

                Dogfighting is a felony in Virginia and in 47 other states. If a dog istransported form one state to another for the reason of dog fighting the chargeturns to a federal charge. Michael Vick served 23 months on a federal sentencealong with a probation time of three years. Even though this was the sentencethat was passed down and he did lose important contracts with NFL sponsors andthe loss of his job the sentence does not seem adequate for the justice of theanimals.  On the up side there were 47dogs that had the ability to be rehabilitated and given the chance to live ahappy pain free life. Today several of these dogs, even after their cruelmishandlings, have found homes. Even more shocking a few have become servicedogs. The fact that these dogs can become loving dogs just proves that PitBulls are gentle animals that just desire to be part of a family.

                Thatis just one fact that is important about the APBT. There are so many myths outthere that also lead to the breed being misunderstood. One of the most popularmyths is that they have locking jaws, meaning that their jaws cannot be priedapart one the dog bites down, this is totally not true. In fact these dogs havethe same structure as any other dog without any locking mechanisms (myths).Another common myth is that these animals do not feel pain, again this is farfrom the truth, and they have the same nervous system as any other canine.

These dogs do feel pain; however,they are a stubborn breed and will finish the task at hand even through thepain and discomfort, aiming to please their masters. Then there is the myththat states that Pit Bulls are aggressive by an inherited trait this again isnot the truth, as all dogs can turn to aggression if provoked. They becomeaggressive due to improper handling, lack of training, lack of beingsocialized, cruelty, disease, sickness or injury. Just like any other breed,they show warning signs before becoming fully aggressive such as, barking,growling, a stern stance, and tail wagging stops. There is also a wideconfusion about what an APBT actually looks like in appearance. There is a testto allow people to test their knowledge on the appearance of a pit bull, which80% will fail on the first take. The link for the test is provided on the citespage.

                Sodespite how people feel about the breed pit bills still make great pets. In theearly 20th century APBTs were the number one family dog. And testsshow that pit bulls are generally less aggressive when placed inconfrontational situations even over breeds that by stereotyping are friendlybreeds such as a beagle or poodle. These tests were conducted by the AmericanTemperament Test Society. Now that the readers of this article have a littlemore knowledge and have even been put to the recognizing test the author hopesthey have a better understanding about the breed. The author also hopes thatthe readers can make a friend with a pit bull rather than fearing one.

Now remember thedog that was launching at the man in the beginning well lets continue thescenario… the dog hits the chest of theman and licks his face.  As he comes backdown to all fours he runs circles around the man tail wagging , just hyper thathis master is home. Unlike the thoughts of the general public this dog justthrives on the love of his master, as does any other Pit Bull that has had theproper attention.
