Kenny Be's Yard Arteology: Bronze ghost of Marilyn Monroe emerges in North Capitol Hill

The study of neighbors through their lawn ornaments...

Narcoleptic Ballerina.jpg

Figure 41. North Capitol Hill: Bent-out-of-shape bronze beauty emerges from blow hole.

After hours of careful examination, the bronze statue pictured in figure 41 appears to be either a narcoleptic ballerina riding a stair-stepping machine across a small pond backwards, or a sleep dancer hovering a few inches over a poorly weeded cabbage patch.

However, the artist has captured the rustling dress hem in mid-movement, which demonstrates that the laid-back lady is standing directly over the natural opening of a Wind Cave blow hole. The disproportionally oversized rock-ringed pedestal further substantiates this theory.

This is the Rocky Mountain version of Marilyn Monroe standing over a subway grate.

Such a unique piece of yard art suggests that the owner of this property is a lover of Hollywood glamor, a believer in the Rocky Mountain mystique and a hopeless romantic trying to find a way to combine the two. The unusual subject matter implies that many hours, of many years, were spent at the Loveland Sculpture Invitational looking for the perfect bronze yard artwork.

The stacked ring of pink sandstones that represent the Wind Cave blow hole, also demonstrates an aesthetic strategy to keep skateboarders from getting close enough to grind on Marilyn's face.
