John Denver, Bernie Madoff & Me rules New York

John Denver once admitted that "Rocky Mountain High" was written under the influence of LSD and marijuana -- and now that his anthem is our state song, the Colorado legislature should write their medical marijuana legislation under the influence of John Denver.

But drugs aren't the reason why Denver is the talk of the town in New York.

No, it's a one-woman-show called John Denver, Bernie Madoff & Me opened Sunday in The Big Apple, commemorating the one-year anniversary of Madoff's arrest.

Created by 73-year-old cabaret singer and former Madoff client Cynthia Crane, the show was inspired by Crane's discovery that Denver's estate also lost money to Madoff. Crane has been quoted as saying that she and her husband were wiped out by the now-jailed con man.

Other Coloradans who lost money to Madoff -- who is serving 150 years in prison for running a $50 million Ponzi scheme -- include former U.S. Representative Tom Tancredo, Vail developer Peter Knobel and KOA talk-show host Mike Rosen.

Crane belts out several Denver songs in her show, which is running at the Don't Tell Mama cabaret theater in Manhattan.
