Temple Grandin, Colorado cow whisperer, gets local premiere of HBO biopic

Precious, which just earned a Best Picture Oscar nomination for Colorado producers Sarah Siegel-Magness and Gary Magness, and The Cove, directed by Boulder's Louie Psihoyos and nominated as Best Documentary Feature, aren't the only high-profile flicks with local connections.

This Saturday, HBO will debut Temple Grandin, a biography about a CSU professor (played by Claire Danes) whose autism has given her an uncanny connection with cattle -- which makes this not just a movie but a moooo-vie. Check out the trailer above.

A select group of Denverites will receive a sneak preview of the film tomorrow night at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science; Dr. Grandin is scheduled to attend. It's an invitation-only affair, but one that HBO is pimping anyhow. Get the lowdown below:

HBO Films and Autism Society of Colorado Present the Denver Premiere of TEMPLE GRANDIN, Starring Claire Danes In Recognition of Autism Education Week - Jan. 31st to Feb. 6th -- CSU Professor Dr. Temple Grandin Will Participate in a Discussion Following the Screening
SAN FRANCISCO -- HBO Films and The Autism Society of Colorado will host the Denver premiere screening of TEMPLE GRANDIN on Wednesday, February 3 at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science in recognition of Autism Education Week. After the screening, Dr. Temple Grandin will participate in a discussion about the film and her work moderated by Betty Lehman, the executive director of the Autism Society of Colorado.

TEMPLE GRANDIN brings to the screen the story of the best-selling author, animal scientist and autism advocate. The film chronicles Temple's early diagnosis; her turbulent growth and development during her school years; the enduring support she received from her mother, her aunt and her science teacher; and her emergence as a woman with an innate sensitivity and understanding of animal behavior.

Colorado Governor Bill Ritter and Mayor John Hickenlooper of Denver have declared January 31-February 6 "Autism Education Week."

The Autism Society of Colorado is the local chapter of the Autism Society of America. Founded in 1965, The Autism Society is the nation's leading grassroots autism organization. It exists to improve the lives of all affected by autism. The Autism Society does this by increasing public awareness about the day to day issues faced by people on the spectrum, advocating for appropriate services for individuals across the lifespan, and providing the latest information regarding treatment, education, research and advocacy.
