Lindsey Howland clings to life as Robert Jesse Gallegos, man suspected of running her over, chills in jail

Robert Jesse Gallegos better hope Lindsey Howland keeps getting better.

​Early Saturday morning, Lindsey Howland, 24, was walking near Evans Avenue and Josephine Street when she was struck by a car.

She wound up in critical condition, but she's reportedly improving at this hour.

Presumably not doing as well is Robert Jesse Gallegos, 22, who's been held for investigation of (you guessed it) driving under the influence. Look below for the Denver Police Department's releases on the crime:

The victim of the Hit Run accident that occurred on March 6, 2010 at 1:48 a.m. at Evans Avenue, and Josephine Street has been identified as 24 year old Lindsey Howland.

The suspect in the Hit and Run accident that occurred at Evans Avenue, and Josephine Street has been identified as Robert Jesse Gallegos DOB 05/19/87. The victim's identity is not being released at this time.

On March 6, 2010 at 1:48 a.m. Denver Police received a call regarding an Automobile, Pedestrian, Hit and Run Accident at Evans Avenue, and Josephine Street. When Officers arrived on scene they found a young female who had been hit by the automobile. The run vehicle fled the scene west bound on Evans. The victim was transported to Swedish Hospital and is currently in Critical Condition. The suspect returned to the scene of the accident accompanied by his parents while officers were conducting the scene investigation. The suspect was subsequently arrested for Hit and Run and is being investigated for Driving under the Influence (DUI). The case will be presented to the Denver District Attorney charges. We are not releasing the suspect or victim's identifications at this time pending positive identification.

Evans Avenue between University and Josephine was shut down in both directions for several hours but it has been reopened.
