Denver Public Schools bans travel to Arizona over immigration law

Tom Boasberg: Gettin' political.
Mayor John Hickenlooper may not be into talking about the Arizona immigration law that potential gubernatorial-election opponent Scott McInnis thinks is so nifty -- but Tom Boasberg, superintendent of Denver Public Schools, is not nearly so reticent.

At 1:45 p.m. today, Boasberg and DPS board members will be front and center at a press conference at the DPS administration building during which they'll announce that the school district has banned "all work-related travel to Arizona stemming from the state's new identity-document law," according to a release. In addition, "the district is also forming a Citizens Advisory Committee to consider further measures."

This is a fascinating and likely unprecedented action by DPS -- one all but guaranteed to stir lots of discussion of the sort Mayor Hickenlooper apparently would rather avoid. More details as the story develops.
