These days, we're accustomed to cold cases heating up due to DNA evidence of the sort that earned Tim Masters $10 million for a false murder conviction.

But DNA wasn't a factor in the arrest this week of Dean Evan Scott for the 2002 murder of Willie Robinson. Aurora Police spokeswoman Detective Shannon Lucy chalks up the bust to "good luck and good, old-fashioned police work."

In other words, no test tubes were required. Get more details below:

Arrest Made in 2002 Homicide Case

On May 6, 2002, Aurora Police Officers responded to the 1600 block alley between North Boston Street and North Beeler Street on report of an unknown problem. Officers found a deceased 28-year-old male, later identified as Willie Robinson.

Mr. Robinson had suffered multiple stab wounds to the upper body. The Adams County Coroner's Office ruled the death as a homicide.

Major Crimes/Homicide detectives investigated the case, but had not been able to identify a suspect.

In late 2009, new information was developed on the case, and investigators were able to identify the suspect in the spring of 2010.

On Tuesday, June 8, 2010, detectives arrested 28-year-old Dean Evan Scott, who was already in custody on other charges in the Arapahoe County Jail. Mr. Scott is being held on a First Degree Murder charge.

Anyone with information on the case can call Detective Tom Wilson at 303.739.6711.
