The release from the Boulder Police Department about an alleged assault that took place yesterday on the Foothills Trail involving an unnamed woman and Michael Gonzales-Davis notes that she managed to "fight him off." But the details of her response make her achievement seem much more impressive. The woman reportedly escaped after punching Gonzales-Davis several times in the face despite him being armed with a knife.

The additional info comes courtesy of the Boulder Daily Camera. According to police, the paper maintains, the woman had just returned from a run and was talking with her sister on a cell phone when Gonzales-Davis came up to her and mumbled something like, "Can I be with you?"

The answer to that question, unsurprisingly, was "No." But he continued to linger and invade her privacy, the Camera notes, and when she tried to rush off the trail, he allegedly tried to grab for her shorts.

He then got what he deserved -- two or three punches to the face.

Gonzales-Davis reportedly struck back, but the woman still managed to get away. She told police that he had been trying to conceal a knife behind a rock, which he had been "caressing."

Better the rock than her. Gonzales-Davis is suspected of having committed other offenses over the weekend, too; City of Boulder spokeswoman Sarah Huntley says they were "domestic in nature." In the meantime, here's the Boulder Police Department's version of the Foothill Trails matter.
