Tim Tebow's mechanics don't suck as much as advertised

• To be honest, he has been great in college. No matter you like it or not, you have to acknowledge his excellence both as one plauer and one common person.

• To be clear, Tebow does not and will never have the cannon to deliver a ball 35 yards downfield on a line. His "rope" is about 25. That's the arm he was issued at birth, and with the work he's put in the last 12 years, that's what he's going to compete at that level with. His deep ball is about 58-60, with a lot of air on it. The industry norm is significantly more than that, about 63-68, with the truly elite throwers coming in at 73, with "moderate air". Montana's arm was never stronger than Tebow's is and he is regarded as one of the 3 most effective qb's in history by pretty much everybody. Ryan Leaf could throw 73, so could Jeff George. Kordell Stewart threw a hail mary 72 for the winner at Michigan in the '90's. The ability to throw that distance never got any of those fellas a ring. So arm strength is huge but not everything. One thing's for sure. If Tebow possessed the arm that can throw deep, we'd have seen it by now. There's no upside in hiding it. For him to be effective, he'll need all the intangibles to offset the lack of a flame thrower. There's precedent for sure, as Montana won 4 rings.
