Medical marijuana advisory panel needs volunteers
Care about medical marijuana? The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment is looking for a few good men and women to serve on the Medical Marijuana Registry Advisory Committee, which will help implement the new medical marijuana regulations required by the laws recently passed by the state legislature.

The CDPHE's notice about the committee, issued last Friday, notes that the eleven-member committee will advise the department's executive director on new rules involving both the patient/caregiver relationship and doctor-patient regulations. The group, which will meet at least once a month over the next year, will include nine members of the public, including a marijuana patient, a caregiver, a dispensary owner and a medical marijuana-recommending physician. (Noticeably absent from the list of potential participants: medical-marijuana legal consultants, such as Rob Corry or Brian Vicente. Could that have been a conscious decision?)
Buried near the end of the notice is a bit of a bombshell:
It is estimated there are 94,000 people who have successfully applied to the registry this year. Of that number, approximately 70,000 applicants are in the backlog of applications still being processed and awaiting their official registry card. The department is seeking additional resources to eliminate the backlog within the next six months.
