Leo Garcia: Did he kidnap his grandson, Matthew Garcia?

Kidnappings of the child-custody variety are all too common these days. But they don't often involve disagreements between grandparents.

That seems to be what's happening in the case of Matthew Garcia, eight, whose grandfather, Leo Garcia, is suspected of taking him. Look below to see a photo of Matthew, as well as to get the details in an account from the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Department.

On Monday July 5, 2010 at approximately 10:00 AM, Deputy Gentry responded to 3280 West Girard Avenue #7 regarding a possible kidnapping. The deputy met with the reporting party who advised that on July 2, 2010 she authorized her 8-year old son, who she has sole custody, to visit with his paternal grandmother. At some point over the weekend, the grandmother relinquished custody to the paternal grandfather. Of the eight year old child's grandfather, who is divorced from the grandmother.

The grandfather is identified as:

LEO GARCIA
Age 56
4725 South Lowell Boulevard

Leo Garcia owns a BLUE 1979 Dodge truck -- Colorado License 352-WGR

The missing child is identified as:

MATTHEW GARCIA
Age 8

Matthew was to return to his mother's residence on July 4, 2010. At the time of this report Matthew has yet to be returned to his mother. .

The Sheriff's Office does not believe that Matthew Garcia is currently in jeopardy, however the child must be returned to his mother immediately. Anyone with information regarding the location of Matthew Garcia is asked to contact the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office at 303-795-4711.
