Douglas County Deputy Wounded in Early Sunday Morning Shooting-Update to Case

DOUGLAS COUNTY: A Douglas County Deputy received a gunshot wound while investigating a felony menacing incident with a gun.

At approximately 2:00 am Douglas County Sheriff's Office Deputies were dispatched to the Stagecoach (at the 2000 N Block of State Highway 83, Franktown Colorado), in reference to a felony menacing incident involving a gun.

A deputy saw the suspect car in the area of Bayou Gulch Road and Hwy 83 and contacted the suspect at the same location.

Once the suspect vehicle stopped, a Douglas County Sheriff's Office Deputy received a gunshot wound from the suspect. The deputy returned fire and the suspect was hit and is in critical condition and was taken to a metro area hospital. The deputy was taken to a metro area hospital and has been released.

The investigation into the facts surrounding the officer involved shooting is being conducted by the 18th Judicial District Critical Response Team, which is standard practice in all officer involved critical incidents. No other details into the shooting are expected until their investigation is concluded. The deputy has been placed on paid administrative leave, also standard practice, until the investigation is complete. Formal filing of appropriate criminal charges against the suspect is expected after the completion of the criminal investigation.

The suspect in this case has been identified as Richard Wesley Anderson dob 12/28/58. He will likely face charges of Attempted First Degree Murder of a Peace Officer as well as Felony Menacing.

The case has not been officially filed with the District Attorney's Office at this time, once that is done more information may be released.
