Dan Maes releases documents about his firing as Liberal, Kansas, cop: Can this possibly help?

The media will only use a source if it serves them, but they will use him. Today's Jessica Fender column is a perfect example of that. 99.9% of her column was dedicated to trashing and decapitating Dan Maes publicly. That is what she was trained and gets paid to do. Anything less and she would have been hung by her, well. Look at Caplis and Silverman. These are seasoned professionals schooled in the art of belittling and slandering. Lawyers by trade of course and have spent the entire month dedicated to mugging Dan Maes personally as well as politically. I think one of the funniest and pathetic stars to rise from the media cesspool has been Bob Beaupre. He has become everyone's favorite political hit man who will do it for any price. Have you hear his latest? I was praying he would have a howling dog in the background. He is about as funny and trustworthy as Tancredo. Maybe he'll cut a CD when its all over.

They don't have to be accountable in the end and dictate what they believe (think) is ethical and moral in their reporting. That is exactly what they teach in journalism school today. Although I believe they are changing it to "Media" school. Bill Ritter is that perfect example of how the media is trained to protect an idiot from himself. Bill Owens was another save the idiot in a time of crisis and Bill Clinton, George Bush were all protected one way or another. Think about Bill Clinton and what he did to an intern in the Oval Office and lived to tell about it and is still successful. Pretty amazing huh?

• Closing thought. This all began about six weeks ago when Dan Maes won the primary. Immediately the Denver Post began attacking Dan Maes. They didn't go after bomb Mecca, deport the illegals Tancredo or wait until after the convention before protecting the public happy go lucky Hickenlooper. Its been a non-stop character assassination of Dan Maes 24/7. I'm surprised they haven't dragged his wife into this. The media couldn't dig up anything recent so they went after him when he was a young man. The source the Denver Post relied on all this time is now bogus and unreliable. This fabricated unsubstantiated story totally lacking of fact cost Dan Maes support for his campaign. Of course the Democrats and the local media couldn't be happier. And as I said before they just replace it with more dirty laundry so the public forgets about what the story was originally about. So will the local media and the only newspaper in town tell the truth about what really happened? Will a Liberal, Kansas ex police chief and KBI fess up to the truth? LOL. Are you kidding? What does Colorado get out of this? They will end up electing a mediocre has been that's just as corrupt as the last one.

Two meetings? Why two if he wasn't involved. Maybe Dan just walked up to these people and said, "Hey guys, I'm working "above cover" for extra credit, fill me in!

The Denver Post and the AP interviewed Police Chief Richard Kistner who said he did not remember the investigation or Maes dismissal. The records now show the opposite occurred and the KBI won't talk to anyone. The Denver Post was happy they were sticking it to Maes but now it looks like their source is corrupted.

• Voorhis is, thankfully, no longer on the public dime and instead a rent-a-cop for Tancredo. He didn't commit a crime, but was fired for his stupidity, a perfectly valid reason for firing. That's his similarity with Maes; stupid and fired.

• Mike, Cory Voorhis was framed by Bill Ritter and the Denver media. He not only was innocent but found innocent by a jury of his peers. Cory was perfectly within his right to do what he did. It was his job. The Denver Post went after Dan Maes as they did Scott McInnis. The characters may have changed but the intent to destroy them was the same.

• Then again, maybe he's the perfect politician: Cut to July 8, two days before the date on the letter, when Kistner said Maes told a KBI agent that he had "advised the persons involved in the gambling operation of the existence and nature of their investigation, thus ruining any chance for the investigation to bear fruit" and placing "your loyalties to friends and associates involved in criminal activities ahead of your loyalty to your profession."

• How does Maes get that he was like Cory Voorhis because of this case? He always compares his firing with that of Voorhis. Gimme a break - Dan Maes is no Cory Voorhis. To compare himself to what Voorhis went through is pure nonsense. He should bow out gracefully of the Governor's race - he's made a total fool of himself. Voted for him in the primary but now a Tancrado supporter.

• I don't think this means that he was working for KBI undercover at all. That has a very specific meaning, and that's not what he was doing. However, he did later correct that and say that he had provided information to KBI and assisted them, which these documents now prove he did. Of course, they also prove that he cocked up the whole investigation, so there's that.

• Also, I find it deeply disturbing that Dan Maes was good looking in 1985.

• Suzy is right. To heck with all of this reporting of the facts. You reporters should have just left it at "Dan Maes is a clown" and called it a day. Beating him up with all of these facts establishing his clownhood is just ganging up. He does kinda look like Serpico though, just slap a beard on him.

• The Westword is doing the same thing the Denver Post is doing in NOT acknowledging that Dan Maes was telling the truth in the beginning about working undercover for the KBI. When newspapers get caught up in their own lie they just replace it with more dirty laundry so the public forgets about what the story was originally about. Kind of like if your husband cheated on you and lied to your face about it. So much for the ethics in reporting.
