Louis Hampers, controversial doc charged with writing fake prescriptions, to return to Colorado
Dr. Louis Hampers, the Children's Hospital ER doctor facing federal charges for writing 654 phony prescriptions, is headed back to Colorado. Hampers was arrested Tuesday in Virginia and appeared in court there this afternoon.

According to Jeff Dorschner, spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office, Hampers did not contest his detention, and a judge ordered he be returned here by the U.S. Marshals.
There's no word on when Hampers will make the trip, Dorschner says. But once he's back in Colorado, he'll appear in court within 48 hours to be advised again of the charges against him. He'll also be given another chance to contest his detention and ask for bond. A judge could deny bond if he or she deems Hampers to be a danger to the community or a flight risk.
Denver Police Department spokesman Sonny Jackson says Hampers, 45, is also wanted on two warrants out of Denver for harassment and witness intimidation. Those warrants are likely related to two previous restraining order cases against Hampers, the details of which were explained in our recent feature article, "When This Physician Gets the Fever, it's the Women He Dates Who Can't Shake the Bug."
