Columbus parade protest takes odd turn when motorcyclist goes down: Kenny Be's Big Picture

The joy of living in a "melting pot" is to share in the wide variety of different cultural celebrations. The photograph above shows the curious call-and-response customs practiced by Native-American-Mexicans and Italian-Americans on their annual Columbus Day get-together.

The picture captures the moment on Saturday when the Italian Motorcycle gang from the Potenza Lodge rolled onto Shoshone Street to rev up their engines in an effort to rev up the amplified taunts of the Native-American-Mexicans protesting in the shadow of the Leprino Cheese corporate headquarters.

The Denver police attending the event easily outnumbered the Native-American-Mexican celebrants. It was the cops' cultural duty to keep the motorcycles moving, which meant that the bikers had to turn out onto West 38th Avenue and then circle the block to make a repeat performance.

And, speaking of cheesed, the photo below captures the dramatic highlight of the multicultural confrontation folk dance...

Potenza Lodge biker revs up, spins out and falls flat.

This photo shows the dangers of mixing revving and riding. Apparently, revving to drown the amplified taunts of detractors requires far more gas than what is needed to ease a two-wheeler into the Saturday-afternoon traffic of West 38th Avenue. With a flooded engine and his posse all en route around the block, the embarrassed biker was left to suffer an onslaught of indignities that Columbus himself could not have committed.

Happily, the moment brought focus to the party. For a brief moment, the crowd drew forward, the chanting of curse words grew louder, the Denver police hitched up their slacks and everyone reveled in the glorious weather of a Colorado October day.
