Denver Landmark Preservation Commission saves historic LoHi home, rejects developer

"We need more oversized condos," reads the message scrawled on a hearing notice posted outside a historic home in the 2900 block of Umatilla Street at the edge of Highland. "Thanks, developers."

But save some gratitude for the Denver Landmark Preservation Commission, which last week turned down the request to delist the Victorian bungalow from its landmark status.

Had the commission approved the request, the building would have been destined for a date with the wrecking ball; it's part of a four-lot package that has to look pretty attractive to any developer wanting to put up more pricey condos in the hot-hot LoHi neighborhood.

Here's another look at this particular sign of the times.
