• If anyone seriously believes there is no such thing as racism (like homophobia, religious bias, ugly and pretty) and that it does not affect how many people hire, buy a house, convict of a crime, AND especially how they vote, they are naive beyond belief.

• Let me put this in plain english for you to understand ILLEGAL: NO PAPERS NO PERMISSION TO BE HERE UNDOCUMENTED: Have permission, may have papers for permission, but are in the process of becoming citizens, and some are actually brought into the USA by the USA to give them specific jobs Bilingual teachers for example. What you people think are the bad guys are actulay PAYING for the privilage to MAKE APPLICATIONS to be here, court costs, government fees, lawyer costs...Many own property here and already pay property fees AKA"TAXES", School taxes, Like everybody else , taxes on food, gas,heat ,water. You can't go up to the register and say don't tax me because I'm illegal.People who don't think illegal or undocumented people dont pay taxes are Jackasses

• I'm going to go ahead and agree that those workers in the country without workers permits are here illegally. And those who hire them to work in this nation's homes, restaurants, farms, factories and other businesses are also committing illegal acts. Where the disagreements come are when we look at enforcement and penalties for the illegal acts. To what extent do workers here illegally still have rights? And can we find ways to address the legal problem without destroying communities and removing a source of labor that keeps many homes, farms and businesses afloat? I think there are people who would like to discuss the details rationally without all the shouting.

• By virtue of entering a foreign country sans docs(passport, visa, etc)an illegal act has been committed. If someone practices medicine without a license, they're not "illegal" but, according to existing laws, they've broken a law, ie, done something illegal. Not too hard to follow. I have my doubts about this event remaining apolitical. Any gathering like this, in an election year, will be severely leafleted by interested parties, as is their right. Angry groups from both sides will be there. Count on it.

• Sorry Neil, your logic is flawed. In this country, you're innocent until proven guilty. Thus, an "illegal" is not "illegal" until a jury says so. Thus, the proper term is "undocumented alien" because the fact is, they don't have documents, but now you have to prove them illegal. Hey, here's an idea! You hold a bake sale to hire more prosecutors so you can prove your theory about all of the "illegals" overrunning our country. Until then, keep confusing "opinion" with "fact"...it's fun!

• The only time that civility will return to this country is when people move towards a concept that "your entitled to own opinion, but not your own facts". I cannot fathom an honest exchange of ideas when the "politically correct" elements of our society whitewash serious issues by denigrating conversations by accusing opponents as racists. When individuals point out the factual realities of a situation opponents need to stop avoiding the issues; For example, politicians who stipulate that ILLEGAL immigrants are undocumented aliens avoid the truth.
