NewsCube's no more, but YesPleaseMore Pop Up Store pops up again on the 16th Street Mall

The pianos have been silenced -- for now -- and the NewsCube was closed after just a few weeks of operation.

But there are still signs of life popping up on the 16th Street Mall, including the skating rink that will open in Skyline Park after Thanksgiving and a second installment of the YesPleaseMore Pop-Up Store, debuting today at Denver Pavilions.

The first round of the pop-up store popped up in April during Create Denver Week, an initiative of the Denver Office of Cultural Affairs. The temporary retail space was filled with affordable works by more than sixty local artists, who realized 70 percent of all sales. The space also offered workshops and special programs.

Those focuses will continue in this second spot, on the second floor of the Denver Pavilions by Nike Town, with an opening night party from 6 to 10 p.m. today that includes a performance by Ballet Nouveau, music by the Beauty Bar and a typography installation by Christopher Branson of KerntheWord.

And, of course, there will be plenty of performance art -- just a few steps away on the 16th Street Mall.

Now the city just needs to figure out how to put an adjunct of the Pop-Up Store in the NewsCube. Or are there better ideas for that space? Post your ideas below.
