Rocky Mountain Rollergirls are the No. 1 derby team in the country, new rankings say

• Definitely, as a fan of all Denver sports, it has been nothing but fun watching the Rocky Mountain Rollergirls this year. GO ROCKY MOUNTAIN!

• Thank you for covering this Westword, this is big news right now in the derby world. Viva la Roller Derby!

• Walter pretty much said exactly what I wanted to say only way better. They may not be "official" but the guys over at DNN know what they are talking about and I'm pretty sure they were correct on who would win a game more than 80% of the time this year. It's pretty hilarious to say that the WFTDA rankings are the "meaningful" rankings since all the derby people I know wait every month to see what DNN has chosen for the monthly power rankings and no one really gives a crap what the WFTDA rankings are since they aren't updated as often (and are often not as accurate because of that). I predict that your 3rd place prediction will be wrong:)

• Actually, these rankings mean a whole lot to a large number of people, especially since the WFTDA ranks by region whereas DNN ranks everyone across the country (and, indeed, the world). If they didn't mean anything, I doubt there would be so much debate over them every month in the comments thread. However, if these particular fans don't do it for you, you could also check out derbydeeds.com, who have them placed in a good spot to win Championships or allknowingderbytron.blogspot.com which is based entirely on algorithm and has Rocky Mountain ranked #2. Also, since there really aren't any major brand names interested in doling out big bucks to whichever team takes home the Hydra, it could be argued that the Championship rankings mean less than the DNN ones, since all that really matters in a sport like this is what your peers think of you. Anyway, something tells me that you'd be singing a different tune if the team you supported was Power Ranked at #1. Who's your team again?

• That's nice recognition and all, but these particular rankings really don't mean anything. They are just the opinion of a handful of derby fans. The REAL meaningful rankings will be determined at the WFTDA Championships in Chicago in next month. My prediction is that Rocky Mtn. will finish 3rd, which is still very good for national rankings.

• Urrk'n Jerk'n and Amanda Jamitinya have added a force to our team but 5280 Fight Club was already a force to be dealt with. They have the best players in the nation with players like She Who Can Not Be Named, Frida Beater, Whippity Pow, DeRanged and Psycho Babble to just name a few. The team is made up of 14 hard heating women who work as a team and not individually. They will show this team work in Chicago and will show the world what they are made of. Go Fight Club!!!!
