Cruisin' Oldies 950 AM to simulcast on 103.1 FM

Back in September 2008, we told you about oldies radio moving to KRWZ/950 AM, with veteran jocks Randy Jay and Hal Moore later signing on to the newly christened Cruisin' Oldies outlet.
Since then, the outlet's been a rare terrestrial radio success story -- which explains why its parent company, Lincoln Financial, will be simulcasting it at 103.1 FM.
According to InsideRadio.com, Lincoln Financial struck "a $375,000 deal to buy a translator at 103.1 FM from Vic Michael. EMF Media was to have simulcast its 'K-Love' format on the signal, but it will instead get an HD2 subchannel on Lincoln Financial country [station] KYGO (98.5)."
Adds Radio-Info.com: "'Cruisin'' has recently obtained the play-by-play rights to the NBA Denver Nuggets and NHL Colorado Avalanche, so the expansion to FM gives the franchises more exposure."
This development is especially interesting in light of the continuing radio-biz prejudice against older listeners. Supposedly folks over age 53 aren't all that attractive to advertisers even though they're much more likely to listen to over-the-airwaves radio than their younger peers. Yet despite that, Cruisin' Oldies has flourished and is adding its AM programming to the FM dial at a time when many other music stations are struggling or retrenching.
