David M. Flores caught red-handed, allegedly uses dyed bills from Highlands Ranch bank job

The phrase "getting caught red-handed" wasn't invented specifically for David M. Flores, 48, but it certainly seems appropriate to his situation. Following a Highlands Ranch bank robbery, Flores was busted on an aggravated robbery charge after handing a Walmart clerk red-stained bills with red-stained hands -- a color presumably caused by an exploding dye pack.

Highlands Ranch Man Arrested For Bank Robbery in Highlands Ranch

DOUGLAS COUNTY: On 11/10/2010, Douglas County Detectives from the Special Investigations Unit arrested a Highlands Ranch man on suspicion of a robbery at a Highlands Ranch bank.

On 11/09/2010 at around 4:00 p.m. deputies responded to a bank robbery that had just occurred at the Colorado State Bank and Trust, located at 9561 S University Blvd in Highlands Ranch. The suspect was described as a white male, 30-35 years of age, about 5'11 and between 160-190 lbs. He was wearing a dark sweatshirt and pants. He also had a longer beard or goatee. The suspect took an undisclosed amount of money, to include a dye pack. He then left the bank on foot. Patrol secured the area and searched for the suspect.

On 11/10/2010 at around 12:17 a.m., deputies were called to the Walmart store at 6675 Business Center Dr, on the report of a suspicious person trying to make purchases with what appeared to be bills that had red dye on them. The suspect was described as having red dye on his hands as well. Patrol deputies responded and talked to the suspect. He was identified and photographed. Detectives from the Special Investigations Unit then responded to the suspect's home, in Highlands Ranch, to talk to him further about the incident. The detectives were able determine that they believed this was the same suspect that had robbed the bank the previous day.

David M. Flores, age 48, from Highlands Ranch, was taken into custody and transported the Douglas County Detention Facility where he was booked in on charges of Aggravated Robbery and Theft. He remains in custody on a $75,000 bond.

This is still an open investigation and more information may be released after the case is filed with the District Attorney's Office.

"Great job to all those involved in this case; from the patrol officers responding to the initial bank robbery to the quick thinking employees at the Walmart. The detectives did a great job responding to the leads and ended the night with a quick arrest. Kudos to all," stated Sheriff Dave Weaver.
