One way to make sure you get a lot of attention for a robbery: Steal Christmas gift cards from a child with leukemia. That's what Bryant Ruff and Heather Lopez were accused of doing last January, and while Ruff's already been convicted, Lopez has reportedly skipped -- and the Westminster Police Department would like to introduce her to a cell before the holidays. Details and a larger photo below:

Westminster Police Department release:

On January 5th, 2010 Sarah Chesbro was robbed as she walked her 11-year old son into Target to spend his Christmas gift cards. Mrs. Chesbro had traveled from out of state to provide medical treatments for her son who was suffering from Leukemia.

Mrs. Chesbro had chased down the robber, but he escaped when the female get-away driver sprayed Sarah with mace. The police department had video, but nothing else to go on and quickly exhausted every lead in the case.

We reached out to the public for help. Donations and offers to contribute began pouring in from around the metro area. It was refreshing to see so many good people trying to help. The donations were appreciated, but the Chesbro family and the police department wanted the suspects captured.

Shortly after the media showed security video police were hot on the trail of both suspects. Police were able to identify Bryant Joseph Ruff (DOB: 03-16-89) as the male that stole the purse, and Heather Lopez (DOB: 03-20-80) as the get-away driver.

Krista Flannigan, spokesperson for the Adams County District Attorney's Office, was able to provide the following: "Bryant Ruff pled guilty to Robbery (F3) and Trespass (F6) on July 27, 2010 in connection with this case. Ruff was sentenced on September 28, 2010 to the Colorado Department of Correction to seven years for robbery and three years for trespass, to be served consecutively."

With the public's help justice has been served for one of those responsible and we need your help again to find Heather Lopez. Mrs. Lopez is currently on the run with an active warrant for this case. If you know where Heather Lopez is, you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP (7867) or the Westminster Police Department at 303-658-4427.
