Timothy Layne Martinez gets 32 years for sex assault on two sleeping women he videotaped
Last December, we shared the startling post "Wake Up: You May Have Just Been Sexually Assaulted by Timothy Layne Martinez." At the time, Jefferson County officials were reluctant to provide too many details about Martinez, who faced nineteen counts of sexual assault against two women -- acts he'd allegedly videotaped. But now that Martinez has received a 32-year sentence for the crimes, the specifics are coming out.

According to the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office, two of the three known victims of Martinez's "degrading, abusive assaults" were a woman with whom he was intimate at the time and her sister. The assaults reportedly took place between February and November of 2006, but the women in question had no clear idea about exactly what happened until November of 2008, when Martinez's brother, Chris, discovered a videotape presumably recorded by the perpetrator himself in a box stored in the crawl space beneath his house and shared it with the women in question.
No surprise that the women were "shocked and very upset" by what they saw, the DA's office notes. They promptly took the evidence to the Lakewood Police Department in the hope that it would be enough to put Martinez behind bars after a failed attempt to hold him responsible for alleged sexual assaults against the sister of the woman he was seeing. Still photos of presumptive assaults against the sister had been at the heart of a 2006 proceeding against Martinez, but because the victim couldn't remember what had happened, a jury ultimately acquitted him. The jurors knew nothing about the videotapes, and neither did Chris, who moved a box containing them at his brother's request but didn't view the aforementioned recording until two years later.

Turns out the box contained sexual assault footage in the hundreds of hours, Jeffco authorities say.
Martinez was arrested for the crimes in 2009, but subsequently jumped bail and high-tailed it to Texas. When he was arrested there, he had more boxes of videotapes featuring the two women, as well as a third who officials still haven't been able to identify. In them, the women appear to have been drugged -- a thesis underscored by a "joke" to one of the women about using roofies. Some of the videos show Martinez arranging the unconscious women so they were at the best angle for the camera.
In court, Martinez was described as a "sexual sadist." He's been sentenced to 32 years in prison, after which he'll be placed on sex offender intensive supervision probation for twelve years to life.
