California Zephyr heading into Union Station

The sun just started to edge up over the horizon after we passed Fort Morgan: The California Zephyr is running an hour or so late, but the miracle is that it's going at all, after the mess the snowstorm made of the East Coast.

That means the California woman sitting across the way, who'd hoped to be able to visit the Tattered Cover during the stop at Union Station, won't be able to see the legendary store this trip.

"Next time," she promises, "I'll spend the night in Denver. Is there anything else to see there?"
