CU Boulder swimsuit calendar: Sneak preview of launch party sure to heat up Boulder

• Wow........... I have truly found some of most extreme and stunning swimsuit from this post. As the patter and outlook of this one are truly looking classy and elegant. I am highly impressed to see this one. Thanks for sharing.

• Jack, go to the calendar's webpage. Make a Wish is right there on the main page. To say they are not promoting this as an extension of Make a Wish is a completely stupid argument, when they print it in bold letters on the front page. Make a Wish may not do "due diligence" on every donor, but when one has received this much publicity by marketing partial nudity of young college women, I think they should speak out to the large numbers of people who would be offended. My point: Michael Roberts should have called and asked if they are aware their reputable charity is being used to sell lust and if they are even aware that they're being pulled into this. The sex tape was an analogy -- moron. But your next two points is somewhat related -- now sit down and down strain you brain, because this is another analogy - a girl can become a stripper or do porn at 18, too, but it doesn't make that a smart decision that's good for her future, either. For you to assume that many, many people in the professional world are not going to view this as a poor reflection on these women's judgment and character is just silly and shows you have not lived in the real world where character and judgment matter. Let me guess, you're one of the calendar's producers and profiteers and you're worried about finding "talent" for the next calendar, so their bodies can make you more money? There's a word for that. No, my daughter isn't in this calendar. If she was, she'd be paying her own tuition next semester. End of story.

• 1) They're not misleading people if they donate 5%. It's not marketed as though it's done on behalf of the charity, so your argument doesn't work. 2) Do you think Make-a-wish does due diligence on every donor? Again, doubt it. 3) They are not selling a sex tape, so that's irrelevant. 4) These girls chose to be a part of the calendar, and as adults that is their right as an American to do so. There are quite a few girls who want to get into modeling, and I doubt they would call it a mistake. 5) Unless it was your daughter in the calendar, it's not your concern what the parents think. Would you rather we make laws based on whether some parents would feel uncomfortable? If you think so, a communist country might be a better fit for you than America. But then again, they might not let you share your opinion like this either. That's what freedom comes down to.

• Nice try, Lenny and Jack. Lenny, are there any production costs? I assumed 50 percent overhead, and 50 percent profit. Jack, they're clearly marketing this as a fundraiser for Make a Wish, which means they're misleading people who buy the calendar. This is no different than the people who sell toys and other items at a table in front of a store claiming the money goes to a school or charity, when in fact the charity gets a pittance of the inflated price. A more mature reporter would have told us less about how horny college girls make him and more about the people producing and selling this calendar. A serious-minded reporter might have sought a comment from Make a Wish about money it receives from marketing young flesh. This certainly makes me question Make a Wish as a credible organization that respects women. Just a business, Jack? So if the frat boys who did this calendar also wanted to make and sell a sex tape featuring not-very-bright girls with low self-esteem in their late teens and early 20s, you'd be OK with that, too, since the boys are just learning about business, correct? In any event, it appears Westword has run enlarged photos from the calendar today, which means most guys, 12 to 70, will jerk off to that and not buy the calendar, meanwhile these girls' mistakes will live forever on the Internet. Even as we speak this morning, somewhere their fathers' co-workers are forwarding links to his precious daughter's mostly naked pictures. It's their fathers I pity, but obviously the girls cared more about who is going to be jerking off than who they're going to embarrass.

• Kudos to the CU students who dreamt this up and have seen it through. Encouraging students to start business can teach them much more than most classes will. Entrepreneurship is what drives the US economy, creates jobs and develops leaders. Susan, I don't believe that the company who created the calendar is a non-profit, and they're not representing themselves as one. (LLC = obviously for profit) In addition to not being a charity, they're not soliciting contributions, so it seems like the "charitable solicitations act" probably wouldn't apply here. They are a for profit company, selling products, and are voluntarily going out of their way to donate their business profits to a charitable cause. We should encourage this type of social responsibility. Do most of the companies that you buy from donate more than 5% of their profits to charity? Doubt it. Keep up the good work boys. Nice calendar.

• Grow up, Susan. The fathers, daughters, (frat?) boys and others involved with this calendar are more than just stereotypes you read about in some Womyns' Studies 101 textbook. Maybe try to find out a little more, maybe even *gasp* get to know them personally before barfing up a bunch of "I bet" cliches. Your Andrea Dworkin-esque tantrum ultimately serves only to perpetuate one stereotype: that of the insecure, humorless, killjoy feminist. How ironic. And how pathetically hypocritical. By the way, 100% - 5% = 95% (not 45%). I'm not EVEN going to tell you what kind of stereotype you've reinforced there, LOL! This calendar is a great idea, and a fine way to raise money for a good cause. Well done, and Go Buffs!!!

• I bet these young ladies' fathers are so proud. Wonder if taking off their clothes to please immature men was the reason their dads saved up for their college education at CU? The website says they will give 5 percent of their profits to charity? Five percent? And the other 45 percent? How much were the girls paid? I'm betting it was nothing. I'm also willing to bet the frat boys who did this calendar have no idea what the Colorado Charitable Solicitations Act requires. I think I'll send a letter to the AG's office to see it they are aware of whether this "calendar" -- somehow doubt that's its main purpose -- complies. Here's a headstart, boys. The Colorado Charitable Solicitations Act, C.R.S. �6-16-101 to 113, requires registration, maintenance of records and annual filings with the Colorado Secretary of State for any non-profit soliciting contributions in the state. It also prohibits deception in solicitations. Violations of the act can be misdemeanors or felonies and the Colorado Attorney General has jurisdiction to enforce the Act criminally and civilly.
