Joshua Amoroso, Gateway Church youth pastor in CO Springs, bused for sexual assault on a child

By definition, a youth pastor has access to lotsa young folks. And Joshua Amoroso, 21, who served in this capacity at Colorado Springs' Gateway Church, is accused of violating the trust required by someone in that position in the worst possible way -- with a fourteen-year-old girl. As detailed by the Colorado Springs Police Department, the first complaint against Amoroso surfaced in October, and the CSPD fears there may be more victims.

A representative of KRDO-TV in the Springs reached the suspect by phone last night -- but Amoroso said his signal was cutting out. Thank you, bad cell coverage. He was arrested at a local mall on Wednesday and has reportedly been charged with sexual assault on a child by someone in a position of trust. Get more details from the CSPD release below:

Incident date: December 1, 2010 Time: 2:30:00 PM Division: Investigations Location: 1700 Briargate Boulevard

Summary: On October 18, 2010, officers were dispatched to a Colorado Springs home to investigate a sexual assault of a 14 year old female. Further information was received that a 21 year old male, employed as a youth pastor at a local church, engaged in sexual contact with the juvenile female at multiple locations within the City of Colorado Springs. Detectives from the Crimes Against Children Unit were assigned to continue the investigation. The adult male was taken into custody inside of the Chapel Hills Mall on 12/01/2010 and later booked into the Criminal Justice Center for the felony charge of Sexual Assault on a Child by one in a position of trust. The male taken into custody was identified as 21 year old Joshua Amoroso. The Crimes Against Children Unit is concerned there may be additional victims of sexual abuse by Mr. Amoroso. Persons with additional information concerning other possible victims are asked to contact the Colorado Springs Police Department at 719-444-7000.
