Laura Boggs of the Jeffco school board is censured for shmuckery

• She was not allowed to vote on the censure.

• While reading another article on this dispute, found at http://www.ednewscolorado.org/2010/12/17/11586-friday-churn-time-for-break-graduation I found an interesting and troublesome quote , "If the allegation is that one board member was going to try to interfere with the largest grant this district has ever received, unilaterally… I am really concerned,” said Thomas, the board president." Well Mr. Thomas, as a Jeffco parent, I too am concerned. If a board member has information that could be "hazardous" to your receiving a grant, shouldn't your focus be on fixing the problem instead of censuring the messenger? Being a former grant manager, I know there are only a few things that could actually stop funding and those are all very serious matters that can lead to hearings, trials and incarcerations. I for one would like to know what exactly is going on.

• Well she must be a wacky individual to vote to censure herself. I'm curious about the "private meeting" -- that wouldn't have been a meeting of a state public body oblivious to or contemptuous of its duties under Colorado law (i.e. in particular to be open to the public at all times), would it? We don't learn enough about Laura Boggs' actions to judge her performance on the school board; you just present us with what we are supposed to consider a series of bald outrages. As for school being "stupid", this can hardly be much of a revelation, even to students in Jefferson County schools. On balance, considering that the Denver Post editorialized against her, I question her nomination as a schmuck, especially when there are so very many more who are officials of our local and state governments right here in Denver proper. A grand jury in New Mexico has subpoenaed communications between advisers to the former governor and Chris Romer -- with luck, he will make the transition from schmuck to felon without all the effort he put into the former occupation being acknowledged by the media.
