Qwest sign: Light there be lights!

The Denver skyline is bright with Christmas lights, but a traditional blue glow still dominates the dark. And while the status of the Qwest sign will ride on the Qwest/CenturyLink merger proposal, that azure light isn't expected to go out anytime soon.

According to Qwest spokeswoman Kate Oravez, there have been no announcements yet about the brand of the new company (should the deal go through), or what will happen to the Qwest light on top of the building at 1801 California Street (ditto), although it's been reported that the official office would be in Louisiana, where CenturyLink is located.

In fact, a dozen states still have to sign off on the merger proposal, as the Colorado Public Utilities Commission did last week. So for at least the first half of 2011, Oravez says, you can count on the Denver skyline to still ride the light.
