Brett Reese, Greeley school board member, is too shmucky for class

School days, school dazed,
Dear old Greeley fool days,
Reading and writing and prejudice,
Taught to the tune of my firing stick.

Ah, the halls of education. Bastions of knowledge and progressive thought. And the occasional crazy school board member.

Or, as Greeley-Evans school board member Brett Reese likes to think of them: good places to spew racist form letters that someone found on the Internet and even better places to carry concealed weapons.

Last weekend, Reese was taken to task for reading an Internet missive on his radio station, KELS 104.7, denouncing Martin Luther King, Jr. and purporting to tell the real facts about his life.

Reese apparently reads the letter, calling King a sexual degenerate, a Communist and other names, twice a day as a run-up to MLK Day. And while the letter -- which he claims a reader sent to him several years ago --- mixes fact with fiction in an effort to spin King's legacy of tolerance and peace into one of hatred and fear, Reese has stood behind it.

So much so that he now plans to carry his gun to school board meetings, saying he fears for his life, based on threats he says he's received about the radio broadcast. And today, a rival radio broadcaster accused Reese of threatening to shoot him up over ad sales dispute. As a result of that claim, Weld County sheriff's officers suspended Reese's conceal-carry permit.

These are all good lessons for children. Shmucks just get shmuckier, so stay away from them at recess.

I unfortunately grew up near this person (I can't even call him a "man") in rural Wyoming and have the misfortune of working for the same school district he now is elected to represent. He was arrogant then and is even more so now. He has no intention of helping the school district and children within it, he only wants to further his own agenda by getting his name and face in the media. Lately, he has had more than his fair share of press and publicity and I just hope that he will go back to his tiny waste of a radio station and leave the real work to those who are passionate about it.

Strong take, Greeleyresident. Thanks for reading and posting.

I hope no student in the Greeley School system ever goes "Columbine" on their fellow students, but maybe find this guy and get some practice time. Opps, I'm sorry I did not mean to put a Sarah Palin Crosshair bounty on him.

How do you make the cut for school board in Greeley, the lower the I.Q, probably the better I assume.

Pity the school district with idiots like this giving educational guidance or "mis-guidance" in this case.

It's even more hilarious to watch this schmuck play "stupid victim" when he is interviewed on TV, saying those who have targeted his radio station's sponsors have no "proof." His brand of willful, gleeful IGNORANCE astounds me.

And now another one of those who loves his guns and has (had) a "conceal carry" permit is probably someone who shouldn't.

That second sentence is a doozy, dang!

He is another example of a gun-hugging nut with a "conceal carry" permit who shouldn't be allowed near the things.

I haven't heard the editorial, I think it's a good thing to de-mythologize and show someone warts and all. It was well-known that MLK was a philanderer - but that doesn't detract from his significant achievements. It does show he's human, and that's important in the context of history. If we can go after Columbus, the Kennedys and everyone else - no one is sacrosanct.

Someone needs to file against his station's license renewal... just visit the station and inspect his public file... then report what isn't there to the FCC.

yah, lets break down his door in the middle of the nite and trash the house and his station we can also plant some papers there stating he's a communist! oh, i forgot you are the communist.

I live and work in Greeley and am completely embarassed and appalled by Reeses actions. He is an embarassment to our School Board. Most of us here want him off our school board. He is not an example of the citizens of Greeley.

Having been born and raised in that smelly hole in Northern Colorado, I can state with a fact that Reese IS representative of a large population of Greeley. His hate speech fits nicely in the former Klan capitol of Colorado. I've filed my complaint with the FCC. I encourage others to do the same. Even "Free Speech" comes with a price attached. Reese smears those who can't defend themselves, like the dead. I call on all Progressives to join me in a demonstration in Greeley at the KELS 104.7 broadcast studio. I'm sure the University community will pitch in.

I have lived in Colorado all my life, and this breed of white man has always taken advantage of others. I'm not embarassed about his actions and words, I have been living around his type and his folks.

Until the mid-1960s, Colorado was the national seat for the Ku Klux Klan. There is well-documented evidence of several governors and mayors, as well as Joseph Coors, having strong ties and heeding their "advice."
