On December 22, a man later identified as 21-year-old Jordan Nelson was killed on the 2900 block of North Pontiac Street while sitting in his car. Less than a month later, on early Saturday morning, Quentin Smith, 21, died in a drive-by shooting a little over four blocks away.

At this point, the Denver Police Department is keeping most of the facts to itself. Here's what DPD spokesman Sonny Jackson could share about the death of Smith, 21, who died of multiple gunshot wounds according to the Denver coroner's office.

"Close to 1 a.m., the victim was standing in front of 3356 North Pontiac when a car came by and the victim was shot," Jackson says. "We can't release any information about the car yet, but it fled the area, and the victim was taken to Denver Health, where he died."

Regarding the investigation, Jackson continues, "The homicide unit is looking into it, following up on leads, talking to people in the area. But we've got a little more work to do before we have a totally clear picture on this."

Jackson makes no mention of any possible connection to gang activity. But there's no question this stretch of North Pontiac has been mighty lethal of late.
