Prior to the hit and run that killed Rockstar Lounge valet Jose Medina, the vehicular crime that got the most attention in these parts involved the arrest of Brandon Mondragon for severely injuring Tim Albo and Heather Kornman last October. Now, Mondragon has pleaded guilty to the crime -- but his sentenced jail time maxes out at six months.

According to the arrest affidavit on view in its entirety below, Mondragon headed to Beta in the company of Charmaine Ortiz and Desirae Valdez at around 10:30 p.m. on October 2. Ortiz caught a ride home with someone else around midnight, while Mondragon and Valdez remained at the club's bar.

Later, the document says, Mondragon called Ortiz to say he'd been driving "when they hit something and he kept going because he panicked."

Valdez told officers the same tale: "She stated that Mondragon was driving them home when the windshield in front of her shattered and glass fragments landed on her as a result. She also stated that she did not know what they had hit."

That "what" turned out to be Albo and Kornman, who likely face a lifetime of issues as a result of their injuries. Yet Mondragon's sentence only calls for six months in jail, with work release an option, plus four years probation and 300 hours of community service.

MAN PLEADS GUILTY IN LODO HIT AND RUN

A man accused of hitting two pedestrians and then leaving the scene of the accident near 20th Street and Chestnut has pleaded guilty.

Brandon Mondragon (dob: 8-21-89) pleaded guilty [Monday] to leaving the scene of an accident (F5), naming both victims.

Mondragon was driving on 20th Street in the early morning hours of October 3, 2010, when he hit two pedestrians who were in the crosswalk at Chestnut and then fled the scene. As part of the guilty plea agreement, Mondragon will face 6-months in the Denver County Jail with work release, 4 years of probation, and 300 hours of community service when he is sentenced on April 25, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. in Denver District Courtroom 5G.
