Anarchist protesters could strike 2012 Dem convention, Denver officials warn (VIDEO)

Officials from Charlotte, North Carolina -- the host of the 2012 Democratic National Convention -- recently came to Denver to learn from our city's experience hosting the 2008 DNC. What was Charlotte Chamber of Commerce President Bob Morgan's take-away after meeting with Denver's civic leaders? The DNC will bring economic activity, media exposure and anarchist protesters.

In the below video, Morgan explains how the Charlotte delegation was somewhat surprised to learn that managing various groups of protesters are a significant part of running a convention.

"Some of whom, by the way, do not come with peaceful intent," says Morgan. "They are self-described anarchists who want to come and make mischief and draw attention to their cause." Later, he adds that "we want to be a lot more like Denver in '08 than Chicago in '68."

So maybe instead of Re-create '68 -- the former outfit that sent Denver into an overblown tizzy over protesters -- Charlotte will use the motto "Re-create '08.

What kinds of protesters should Charlotte expect? View this handy slide show of protesters from the 2008 DNC.

The real danger of violence is from DPD, not from a small group of teenagers in black. Will Denver Police again sell t-shirts that brag about their insane level of police brutality, directing officers to get there early and "beat the crowds" (get it? Isn't that hilarious in a retarded redneck kinda way?)?

Members of the DPD have been caught raping women they falsely arrest, stealing drugs and evidence, brutally beating innocent bystanders in LoDo for no reason other than their steroid-enraged cop-egos and falsifying incident reports at every opportunity. They are scum who have consistently abused their power and authority and no citizen of this city in their right mind should trust them for a second.

I will take a handful of angry kids over the fascist, violent assclowns at DPD any day of the week. Wake up, Denver -- your "protectors" are rapists and thugs.

Jared, don't forget about the City's pathetic retroactive justification after the convention:'http://www.denverpost.com/brea...

The City effectively found evidence of homelessness and construction sites.

The whole thing reminded me of claims and search for WMD's, with a lot less mass slaughter resulting.

The mere hint of anarchists was sufficient to waste millions on an absurd law enforcement show of force. I'll never forget the scene in Civic Center Park the Monday morning before the Convention; it was like we were visiting a giant armed encampment of riot police. Charlotte aspires to field an overwhelming police overreaction like Denver's and only commit false arrest on a hundred or so people, rather than conduct a mass police assault on protesters as Chicago did -- so progressive! If Morgan believed Denver's civic leaders (who were led around by the nose by police), he has a very skewed understanding of our reaction to peaceful protest.

You might be the dumber, most paranoid person alive. Tell you what, the next time you get robbed why don't you call that "handful of angry kids" since DPD is so horrible.

Time for the Charlotte media to begin a year long fear mongering campaign to justify repressive City ordinances and a temporary police state. At least Westword in 2008 exposed the lie started by a NYC firefighter about "urine and feces" bombs--a lie that bubbles up before every large demonstration and never materializes.

The sad thing is that this happens at every convention. The fact is that at the national political conventions over the last 10 years, the state just rounds up masses of people up who dare to publicly protest, puts them on buses and then puts them in cages for a few days to keep the streets clear and to teach people a lesson about the dangers of protesting.
