Bedbugs: Watch them suck human blood, defecate and have sex (VIDEO)

Bob Hancock is a biology professor at Metro State College. He's also "Mosquito Man," star of the documentary The Bedbugs of London. In it, Hancock journeys to London in search of an infested hotel room in which to spend the night. Along the way, he offers facts about the bloodsuckers, as well as up-close footage of their bizarre mating habits. Page down to see clips. For more on Denver bedbugs, read this week's cover story, "Bug Bedlam."

As Hancock explains, bedbugs engage in what's known as "traumatic insemination." The male bedbug pierces the female bedbug with his penis and then injects sperm into the wound. In this clip, called "Sexual Trauma," Hancock films the whole she-bang up close.

One way to tell if you have bedbugs is to look for their poop, which looks like tiny black dots. In this clip, called "Fashionable Feces," Hancock gets all up in the bedbugs' business.

This last clip, called "A Night to Remember," is the creepiest. We learn that Hancock has tracked down a hotel room infested with bedbugs, and that the owners have allowed him to spend the night there and film what happens. Do not watch this before bedtime. Seriously.

To contact Hancock, e-mail him at rhancoc5@mscd.edu.

this guy really loves his bedbugs - but he really needs to get outside more often and have more personal encounters with people. That $20k camera and the hobby he partakes in really consumes most of his day instead. Buy an airbed instead, no more bugs :) -unless you really live in a shithole, then that's an entire other problem you have.

And seriously, what's wrong with the last video with the guy sleeping in bedbugs? He's the one on this blog that I'm really wondering and whats going on with his overall well being. The unstoppable laughter while his arm was being attacked by 30 flees/bugs was just too much for me to handle; too many unanswered questions came up at once. While People were dying from bites off those bug 100 years ago. its still not considered a wise choice to having a bug like that bite you - this isn't a good idea nowadays.

Actually, traumatic insemination is not that unique at all. Other insects mate by traumatic insemination as well.

What the hell is wrong with that dude?

I believe he did it in the name of science. I commend him for it. As for people dieing from bed bugs???? No way. Bed bugs do not carry diseases nor do they transmit diseases.

The term "traumatic insemination" strikes me as, well, traumatic. Thanks for the post.
