Denver Broncos: Will Tim Tebow lovers revolt if team uses top draft pick to nab a quarterback?

Categories: Sports

Tim Tebow.
You've heard them -- the rumors that the Denver Broncos will use the second overall pick in the upcoming NFL draft on a quarterback. Yahoo! Sports contributor Bill Snyder's heard them, too, and he thinks Broncos fans in general, and Tim Tebow lovers in particular, would be very displeased if that happened.

In "Denver Broncos fans will revolt if...," Snyder writes an open letter to team owner Pat Bowlen that features the following passage:

I remember a quarterback who couldn't throw a screen pass, lined up under the wrong guy and thought every pass should be thrown as hard as he could. He threw a lot of interceptions his first couple years, but there was something every fan saw that made them want him to start. This QB showed a competitive nature, a leadership quality, and confidence that was contagious to his teammates. So who was this quarterback? None other than John Elway. The leadership and competitive nature is just like Elway -- that is what we fans see in Tim Tebow.

Snyder's advice to Bowlen regarding that pick? "Let's get a good defensive lineman or good middle linebacker and cut the crap. We've got the best QB from last year's draft, so don't fix what isn't broke."

I'm guessing this last assertion might not be universally accepted, particularly by fans of Sam Bradford, who nearly led his terrible St. Louis Rams squad to the playoffs in his rookie season. But does Bradford look as good in his Jockeys as Tebow?

If Tebow played for the Rams last season they would have definitely made the playoffs. Bradford choked hard!

I've been one of many loyal Bronco fans for the past......forever (30 yrs plus). I am sensing that Elway is experiencing some jealousy toward Tebow. Elway was a terrible QB during his first few years in the league. He fnally developed into the great QB that Bronco fans cheered for. When I watched the "experts" at the combines and leading to the draft criticizing Tebow's throwing motion and other characteristics, it was like listening to a bunch of idiots talking about things they no nothing about. When the Broncos announced that Elway was going to be hired as VP, I just shook my head. Yes, he finally developed into a great QB for the broncos and won superbowls, but that does not mean he knows how to run a football team. Mr. Bowlen was so discouraged with the McDaniels fiasco, that he felt he needed to try and keep fans by hiring Elway. I have always been a strong supporter of Mr. Bowlen, but this is a questionable decision. And lastly, are the Broncos crazy??????? Have they forgotten how many Tebow jerseys fans have purchased? Tebow has already proven in college that he is special. He has been patient with the morans that have been calling plays and allowing Orton to lead our team. And when he got his opportunity, he again proved that something special is waiting. He IS our franchise QB. I agree with many other commenters. And I will say, if the broncos pic a QB in the draft when we clearly need to find a Defense, and do not use Tebow as our QB, they need to trade him, so I can start cheering for my new favorite team. I also will not buy another Bronco ticket. This is insane. We know that our defense has killed us in the past several years and Elway needs to accept that Tebow may replace him as the greatest QB in bronco history and get over the jealousy. Judge him only on his performance and get our team back to winning ways.

Why does it have to be an either/or situation???

Why don't you step out of the box for a moment & consider the drafting of Cam Newton to play along side Tebow - in the same backfield - at the same time as Tebow.

One is left-handed - one is right-handed, both can run and both can run & throw the ball. They could be running & throwing it to each other and throwing down field to receivers.

The various plays that could be schemed-up would be vast & could revolutionize pro football. Of course, this would require a genius offensive coordinator to pull off. Unfortunately the best O-coordinator for the job that I can think of is Josh McDaniels.

As I know McD-Bag is an impossibility, I'm sure someone is qualified & willing to revolutionize offensive football.

BTW, Cam Newton reminds me of Rothlisburger. Personally I can't stand Rothlisburger off the field but that's another story.

I, a lifelong Bronco fan, would never watch another game if they sweep Tebow under the rug. This team shopping for another QB right now is like a married man looking to screw around when he's got a perfectly good, loving wife at home. I can't respect that. The Broncos are about succeeding when the world is telling you 1000 reasons why you won't. I like my Broncos having good players who shut up all the Yeahbuts in the end, and Tebow has delivered on that. I know I'm not alone on this, and the only language Bowlen understands is dollars. Let's see how long he can pay ANY players if the stands are half empty.

I have yet to talk to a fan who would stay a fan how they are now, if Tebow is not a Bronco. And starting will come with that.

But I a loyal fan for 30years will never buy another ticket, jersey, or any other item, again if Denver shakes Tebow.

And I would argue that if Elway and Fox are not confident in Tebow's capabilities, then playing him in order to justify the worldview of some of the fan base is counterproductive.

For every person that will never ever even look at a Bronco game without uttering a gypsy curse unless Tebow is anointed as permanent quarterback, there are plenty who are interested in seeing a winning team out there. No more no less.

I for one have no interest in watching a team play terribly just so fans who require their quarterback to be a person of great faith can feel validated.

@mikem2 , your comment on faith as a reason people want to see Tebow play is ignorant.

Tebow is a great football player.

Mark Schlerith once said you can be called a good quarterback. But the biggest honor is to be called a great football player.

The kid faced the NFLs BEST defense in SD and he was a couple more plays away from beating them.

3rd game as a pro.

Yes his faith matters. Im not into buying jerseys of convicted felons. Im not a raider fan.

In fact compare Tebow to orton in pre season.

Youll find Tebow performed just as well with backups.

And Orton had 3 of the top 20 receivers in the league for 60% of his season.

No other qb can say that.

You really think Tebow with his talent level and those receivers would not have done well?

Lastly validation from faith? You must have secret data no one else has ever seen.

Because I know people who dont have religion and they still support Tebow.

Or will the lame and ignorant always attack Tebow because he proffesses his faith?

Im a Bronco fan who has spent thousands of dollars on the team .hours on the team. Years.

So before you go mentioning again all fans who support Tebow are only Tebow fans, maybe you should consider how many true Broncos fans there are that support Tebow because we see a winner. A superbowl.

A return to Broncos football.

No reply on yours so ill use mine. Learn to read.................................i never said i wouldnt watch the Broncos again. Take your own advice.

And orton with those SAME receivers is a vet with an extra year in the system smart guy.

What does shlereths comment have to do with tebow?

John Elway gave Tebow that comment. Seeing as this article is about Tebow and is tied to what the organization is doing at qb led by elway its very relevant.

And if you dont like the ALL comment , then dont genralize your post. When your not specific it is easy to take as all.

your more effected by Tebow then me. It takes 43 muscles to frown 7 to smile.

What does Mark Schelereth saying that it's an honor have to do with Tebow being able to play?. tebow will succed or fail regardless of Schlereth's quote

Ghandi once stated that "Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes." Therefore Tebow must start!

The kid has a release and stats that are similar to Byron Leftwich. He almost won a game? Wowsers! That's not at all like a loss then is it? Oh wait, it is in fact a loss. And tebow *did* have the same receivers as Orton. He went 1-3 with them.

Can I prove that people need Tebow to succeed to validate their religion, I cannot. i can however see a correlation between an extremely religious quarterback and a pathological fan base however.

And nowhere did I mention ALL anything. Please learn to read before you continue this discussion. However YOU and people like YOU who swear that they will NEVER watch the Broncos if they refuse to start Tebow (and I always like how there's never any conditions to that. Does he have to start until he dies? What if he loses 15 games? Bruised thumb on this throwing hand?) clearly are Tebow fans rather than Bronco fans.
