Our post yesterday about Denver mayoral candidate Jeff Peckman appearing in a trailer promoting Battle: Los Angeles, a new alien-invasion flick, drew an interesting response from none other than... Jeff Peckman, who's now seen the movie, and wasn't all that wild about it.

Jeff Peckman writes:

After seeing Battle: Los Angeles, my recommendation to everyone is to save their money for seeing Jose Escamilla's new documentary "The Battle of Los Angeles." See the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYRgaItP9gs

The current Battle: Los Angeles movie was more than disappointing. It had nothing at all to do with the original true story in 1942 about the UFO over L.A. The featurette is misleading in that sense. I was led to believe there was some connection. So I agreed to be interviewed and made every effort to counter the fear-based "alien invasion" theme that Hollywood seems so obsessed with.

There has been no evidence of extraterrestrial visitors having hostile intentions towards humanity -- quite the opposite. Our galactic friends are here to support humanity. They literally have kept us from destroying ourselves by helping us behind the scenes.

Battle: Los Angeles was just not very interesting. You could replace the 'aliens' with WWII Germans or Japanese, Viet Cong from the Vietnam War, terrorists, or out-of-control guests on the Jerry Springer Show and it would make little difference. Hollywood keeps missing the most fascinating aspects of extraterrestrial cultures. This absurd alien invasion industry needs a total makeover. Maybe Denver film-makers can take that on.

It was obvious when I was being baited by questions designed to elicit responses that could be used to support the alien invasion theme. But "that's show-biz."
