IKEA-themed party to celebrate Centennial mayor's speech: Kenny Be's Special Report

IKEA-themed Centennial Mayor Cathy Noon takes the cake.

As illustrated above, the most fitting outfit for Centennial Mayor Cathy Cook to deliver her State of Our City speech today would be a tastefully designed IKEA crown. Hopefully, the speech will celebrate the City of Centennial's tenth birthday -- and recent success in attracting new business -- with the appropriate decorations...

Centaennial politicians have always promoted the "let them eat cake" philosophy.

As seen above, Centennial Mayor Cathy Noon celebrates the state of her city with an IKEA-themed sheet cake. The entire Centennial business community should be thrilled that Colorado's first "Swedish Wal-Mart" store is opening in their affluent suburb in the fall of 2011.

Mayor Cathy Noon will deliver her speech at a Rotary Club luncheon at noon today. Let's hope she doesn't forget to tell the audience that Centennial was able to attract the store with numerous tax breaks, because the politically conservative town provides fewer services to its citizens than other metro Denver municipalities.

Happy Birthday, Centennial! Now, let them eat cake!

As a resident of Centennial (which until 10 years ago was "unincorporated Arapahoe County") this article is surprisingly unresearched. One of the reasons Centennial provides fewer benefits to its citizens is because it has less revenue. Greenwood Village magically annexed all the commercial development along the I-25 corridor. This gerrymandering of the tax base has left Centennial with an almost entirely residential tax base which tends to have higher expenses (people need services, businesses less so) and a lower revenue as we all have to shop at the stores which are across the street, but amazingly in Greenwood Village.

I am thrilled that we are getting IKEA. Though I fear Greenwood Village will figure out a way to "annex" that store as well with a cry of "let them eat meatballs and lingonberries".

Dear Acronymanager,

Thank you for teaching me about the correct use of acronyms. As always, I strive for artistic and linguistic perfection in my work to insure that nothing comes between my insightful blog postings and your enjoyment. The mistakes that you cited were corrected, and I promise to never make them again.

I have noticed that there are numerous grammatical errors on a few million other websites across the internet, and realize you must be very busy. So again, I thank you for taking the time to share your wisdom with me.

For your sake, I hope that the new IKEA store in Centennial will be selling an ergonomically designed panty flattener to help keep your undergarments from getting into such a bunch.

Gratefully,Kenny Be

It's IKEA, NOT Ikea. Please bloggers, learn about 'em acronyms.

bullshit......everything on the north side of county line road is centenial. so basically all the businesses that the new ikea sign towers over. not to mention isn't arapahoe rd and parker rd. in centenial. there is almost more retail at that intersection than there is in all of Park Meadows Mall

Everything along I-25 north of Araphahoe that earns sales tax is somehow in part of Greenwood Village. The movement of GV continued up until Centennial was formed 10 years ago to stop the taxbase grab.
