Royal wedding: So far, 12 Denverites pay $329 to Marriott to watch William & Kate get hitched

Amid all the hype and hoopla about Prince William getting hitched to Kate Middleton during the wee hours of Friday morning Denver time, the JW Marriott Cherry Creek is offering a special Royal Wedding package beginning at "just" $329.

Ridiculous? Maybe so -- but at least a dozen folks have ponied up three-bills-plus to watch something in a hotel room that'll be on every TV planet-wide.

That's the skinny from AFP, a global-news agency that led its roundup of American cash-ins on the U.K. nuptials with the Marriott's deal, which USA Today has touted as well.

Granted, the Marriott package sports a few extras, including "a souvenir Royal Tote Bag filled with glossy magazines featuring Wills & Kate, champagne and strawberries to toast to the happy couple, valet parking and a $25 credit for room service or a delicious meal at Second Home Kitchen + Bar" -- not to mention a 3:45 a.m. wake-up call from an employee who'll probably be trying really hard not to snicker.

Of course, if these dozen financial geniuses simply stayed home, they could pick up some tabloids and order booze, fruit and inedible British food the night before, then set their alarm and watch the big show on their own damn TV, saving hundreds of dollars in the process. But where's the romance in that?
