Reader: Tea Party types are wrong to think Social Security is a redistribution of wealth

Our post about this past weekend's Tax Day Tea Party in Loveland turned into a lively forum for debate about whether this grassroots movement is a good thing or a bad thing.

Here's a post from someone representing the latter point of view.

Eric writes:

Receiving obligations like SS and Medicare that a taxpayer paid into his/her entire life is not "redistribution of wealth"..

"Redistribution of wealth" is the republican held House of Representatives' plan to privatize health care 100%, "redistributing" your..............that's YOUR.............money to the health insurance industries.

Wealth confers power which is used to further aggrandize the interests of the wealthy. The United States has the widest gap between rich and poor that it has for a century, and the disparity grows. The graduated income tax could effect a modest and appropriate redistribution of wealth but for Republicans and their collaborators.

Redistribute the wealth? Eat the Rich!
