Network TV news is a cutthroat business -- and Jeremy Hubbard's getting out while the getting is good.

The onetime Fox31 staple (and 2005 Westword Best Hair winner) jumped to ABC four years ago, eventually working his way up to anchor of World News Now and sometime correspondent duties for World News With Diane Sawyer and Nightline. So why the hell is he returning to Denver, and Fox31?

Hubbard, a native of Glenwood Springs, tells the Denver Post's Bill Husted that family considerations (specifically, his seven-year-old son) inspired him to return. And given that the national news landscape is looking more and more like local TV these days, it shouldn't be a tough transition. Note that his most recent story for Nightline, aired last week, found him trying out SoulCycle, an "alternative-style spin class." And his farewell from World News Now last summer entailed a special Jeremy polka sung by an accordionist to a dog.

No, I'm not joking, and the clip below is proof. While watching, keep your eye out for a brief shot of Asha Blake, another reporter who got her start in Colorado (at KJCT in Grand Junction) before becoming a World News Now anchor and then returning to our fair state. Of course, Blake's stint at KWGN was mighty short-lived; she arrived in 2005 before jumping to Los Angeles' KTLA in 2007. Let's hope Hubbard sticks around a little longer.
