Reader: If Judgment Day is May 21, I'm going to break the bank on May 20!

Joel Warner's post about billboards announcing that Judgment Day is May 21 was originally published early last month. But with J-Day predicted for this Saturday, it's timelier than ever.

And thanks to one of our readers, we know what we'll be doing on May 20...

On Friday the 20th, I'm gonna go buy a Lamborghini, get a bunch food from Sam's and a new entertainment center from Best Buy. You can all come over to my house for a huge BBQ!!!

I am very sad for those who have been following this liethat the rapture will occur on May 21st. Even if they attempt toexplain away “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels inheaven nor the Son, but only the Father” (Mark 13:32), they cannot explain awaythat most every Christian, theologian, scholar, and prophet from the firstCentury until the Nineteenth Century all believed that the church would gothrough the Great Tribulation and not escape through some secret rapture thatwould leave the world paralyzed. I pray that they will take a moment and readmy book, “Final Warning” because the hour of is His judgment has come. http://www.revelation-truth.org

What better answer than to Chase than Luke 12:19-20:  And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.’  but God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’?

I find it particularly amusing that these doomsayers are stealing a march on the Mayans -- of course the foolish heathen got it wrong (by fundamentalist-raving-loony-from-Boulder Harold Camping's imagined calculations, the world will end on Oct 21, well shy of 2012).

There is comedy in the spectacle of this pastor and his flock, but how many have compromised their ability to provide for themselves and their families by devoting themselves to this millenialist cult?  Will whom most dismiss as a harmless crank succeed in swelling the ranks of those in need of public assistance on May 22?  I hardly see how that can fail to happen, and I hope to see the issue explored.
