Carmelo Anthony loses $6 million on house sale: Hope he's happy in NYC (PHOTOS)

Last summer, some observers were still optimistic that Carmelo Anthony might remain a Denver Nugget. But their confidence was shaken when he put his Polo Ridge Estates mansion on the market for $9.5 million. A year later, the spread has finally sold for $6.2 million -- more than $3 million under the asking price and $6 million less than the $12.2 million he paid for it in 2007. And if you think that's funny, Nugs fans, just take a look at the place.

As reported by the Denver Post's Bill Husted, Melo recently described the Colorado housing market as "tough" in a Women's Wear Daily interview. And no wonder, given the bath he took on his spectacular local pad.

The original Kentwood Real Estate listing, which is still online, describes the joint like so:

FAMOUS ATHLETES ESTATE-5.7 GATED ACRES, 21000 MAIN HOUSE WITH 3 SUPPORT BUILDINGS-7 CAR GARAGE-GUEST HOUSE-SOUND STUDIO-6 STALL BARN W/PASTURE-POND-GATED, FENCED-THEATER-GYM-8 BEDROOMS-15 BATHS-PERFECT CONDITION-DEEP WELL.

No question the place is breathtaking. And while the half-price sale won't cause Anthony to go hungry thanks to his $65 million contract with the New York Knicks and blizzard of endorsement deals, he richly deserves the smack he's just been given by the real-estate gods.

I didn't realize I could have jumped off my bike at the Platte River Trail and said hi to Carmelo, or that we might have shared a bench on the light rail at the Mineral Station while he headed to a game.  Small world.

Was someone pointing a gun to his head and forcing him to sell the house right now???  I guess he loves to buy high and sell low?????
