• Big Fella - your last comment was ignorant!  I know the family who owns this dairy.  I have known them for more than 40 years before they were "forced" out of California by the government bureaucracy that is making this state broke.  I do not own a dairy, never have, but I have dozens of friends who used to make an honest living, support their families and generously give back to their community here in California - this family in CO included. I know many farmers who are still trying to make it in California but are thinking about moving because it is just too much of a headache and too costly to keep up with the state's ever-changing laws and regulations.  I lived in Colorado for seven years and knew a few farmers there as well.  The farmers I know in several states, that moved from California, know the law.  They follow the law to the best of their ability if they want to stay in business.  Most have been burned by California so they got fed up and left.  That is one reason why this once thriving state is in such a mess; they are driving out businesses in an effort to appease the loud-mouth opinionated idiots who don't take the time to think through the repercussions of the laws they push for.  Most of them have never even taken the time to research the businesses they want more regulations on.  I do not have a problem with animal rights and I fully support legal immigration.  I know dozens of people including my parents, siblings, my friends' parents, and many friends - all very productive members of society - who have immigrated legally over the past 50+ years.  The laws and regulations work if enforced appropriately.  Too many people are trying to make money by not working their own business, but using their loud mouths and limited legal knowledge and trying to regulate everyone else's!  The individuals who continue to break the law laugh all the way to the bank.  They know the system better than most law-abiding citizens and get false documentation, have cock-fighting "farms" in plain view, abuse people and animals and steal from "the system" (not work the system, but actually steal the hard-earned money from the law-abiding working citizens around them).  These friends who own Wildcat followed all the laws and got the documentation necessary, because they knew that dishonesty and lawbreaking is never a good idea when your livelihood depends on it.  They are not in the business of government investigation, they do not have the resources to run a background check on all their employees (apparently neither does the department of motor vehicles because I know plenty of illegal immigrants personally who have driver's licenses and they are not all from down south).  So how can you make a blanket statement like "fine the hell out of the business owners"!!!   Think about what they are losing already because their employees have been dishonest and the government can't enforce the laws they put in place, and now they do not have the man-power necessary to keep their cows healthy and happy!  I don't care how many people who have college degrees are working at McDonalds - I do not see people who are out of work lining up at these farmer's doors asking for the opportunity to feed, milk, and clean up the literal crap that is dished out on a daily basis.  Some days I think I would rather deal with that kind of crap than the political agenda crap I deal with at my job.  My job pretty much depends on illegal aliens, and their children.  This is not what I intended when I went back to school to change careers due to the tough economic times, but it is the reality.  Going into this field of work (I had a business degree) I did not plan on the reality that if there were no illegal immigrants, I would not have a job.  I worked through an internship program that was set up specifically because there was a need in our state in the highest poverty areas.  Fortunately I was paid for my three years as an intern, but some said it was not nearly enough for what I was doing, but it was a 10-month contract with a paycheck so I was not going to complain.  I am a teacher.  I have a Bachelor' degree in business and a master's degree.  I have taken classes and earned more than 100 units while beginning a whole new career as a teacher in the last four years.  I am struggling to make ends meet for my family while I hear my students who are not legal residents brag about the latest flat-screen and the newest cell phone they got with their mom's monthly check.  It certainly seems to pay for some people to break the laws! "Tired of ILLEGAL ALIENS" comment about a friend not wanting to work along side of an illegal alien who is making the same wage, how about the capitalistic way?  "Wages are received by those who provide a service to the enterprise, also known as workers, but do not have an ownership stake in it, and are therefore compensated irrespective of whether the enterprise makes a profit or a loss.(Wikepedia)"  The workers get paid whether or not the owner makes a profit!  If the illegal next to him is getting more done, working harder,  why does the citizen deserve to get more pay?  Don't expect the business owner who is trying to run a business (not a charity) to give more pay for less work.  I do not think your friends are being entirely honest when they tell you that is why they don't want to work in a messy, stinky, noisy, sweaty, back-breaking job.  The reality is they are not "hungry" enough, or driven enough to do whatever it takes to make a living! Don't let CO make the same mistakes CA is making!  I love CO and I thought it had smarter people!  Don't let it go bankrupt like CA!

• Obviously the ability fully grasp this concept is lost here, but the real travesty is your claim to want to "educate my fellow Americans".  Supply demand theory is completely relevant here, and to anyone reading please ask someone that you trust to have an understanding of what it means and not just take the word of misguided posts on this forum. Further, if you truly believe "most businesses are working on very low margins" then you must not have a very good clue as to what happens in the world around you.  Exon reports profits in the 30% range every quarter.  Any reseller working with a company like Staples will tell you that they expect a 40% markup on every sale.  But beyond those numbers, just open your eyes and realize that  the number of multi million dollar homes and new Bentleys/Maserati's/Ferrari's that you can see on a daily basis in Denver is more then what are Owned by the Broncos and Nuggets.  Yes, businesses are making profits these days. Again, don't take my word for it, just look around and ask yourself what you see.  If you really want to make an informed judgement, go tour a dairy.  I know there are several a short drive from Denver that are happy to arrange tours. Most importantly though, is everyone on here really believes Illegal immigration is one of the biggest problems facing our country today, then we are worse off then any of you believe.  If you are afraid of someone taking your $8/hr job, then please put in the time to get an education and one of the many available jobs out there that pay 3 times that amount.  As Americans you have the availability of education that no illegal alien can compete with, but you have to take the initiative to capitalize on the opportunities that are available to you.

I am not an Native American nor am I an immigrant as you attempt to point out.  I was born in America, therefore, I am a native; not an immigrant. Ignorance is bliss but education is much better.

• Annoyed by ignorance: The tax evasion comes in the form of tax evasion on the ILLEGAL ALIEN'S part (he/she can file their I9 claiming 9 dependents and never file taxes at the end of the year resulting in a lower tax bracket, resulting in tax evasion) or tax evasion on the employer's part (the employer is able to claim payroll on their corporate taxes resulting in tax evasion).  Ignorance is bliss but education is much better.

• Let me get this straight; we have illegal aliens who falsified their identity to get jobs, yet some of them aren’t getting arrested and/or deported?  What’s wrong with this picture?  Look people, this isn’t rocket-science and we need to put a stop to this catch-and-release program for any illegal aliens caught here.  I support Colorado, Alabama, Georgia, Arizona, and any other state that is taking the initiatives to eliminate the incentives for hordes of freeloading and criminal illegal aliens to come here.  Whether the incentives are jobs, entitlements, or citizenship for babies born to illegal aliens to secure entitlements, they ALL need to be eliminated.  The E-Verify system is a step in the right direction and while technology isn’t completely fool-proof, it’s exponentially better than anything else out there and it has a high-90’s percentile affectivity.  It’s the racist, open border, illegal alien advocates, such as National Council of La Raza (the RACE), SEIU, American Friends Service Committee, ACLU, El Grupo, Border Angels, and biased journalists who continually find reasons to complain and to push their agenda; that being opening our border so more freeloading and criminal Mexicans and Latin Americans can just waltz in here unabated and for us to look the other way and not enforce our laws or protect our national identity and sovereignty.  The bottom line is we need to eliminate all the incentives for illegal aliens to sneak in here and whatever states do to make this happen great, and I couldn’t care less what the excuse or what those sympathetic to illegal immigrants have to say.  Enough is enough, and I’m thoroughly disgusted and fed up with the onslaught of illegal aliens who are invading this country.

• The two masters and two bachelors degrees I hold should suffice to say this is an educated comment, but let me move beyond a simple retort to your ill witted comment and try to give you one that is actually well informed. Having grown up in a farming community and worked on farms starting at the age of 13, I have first hand knowledge that there are several flaws in your comments and many on this board.  It really is simple, right now all farms (including dairy farms) operate on very low margins.  Be honest with yourselves, when is the last time you saw a farmer driving a new Ferrari or Bentley?  Therefore these operations cannot afford to pay an inflated salary without increasing the sale price of goods produced (IE what you pay for milk).  Simple supply and demand theory will tell you that at a fixed price (the low salary farmers can afford to pay) there is a fixed supply (the number of "Americans" willing to do the work for that wage).  Without the addition of extra supply (the immigrant workers willing to take this wage) the only way the farms can meet their demand is to increase the wages they are offering to increase the supply.  Increased wages do equal increased costs to the consumer, but don't trust this business owner as you can ask any business owner to confirm this very basic concept. Moreover, I would ask any non-racist and impartial person (sorry Tired of ILLEGAL ALIENS)  reading these posts to ask themselves what they really fear about someone taking jobs that you yourselves would not do.  Competition is what this country and our economy are based on, so why now are we so afraid of it.  Anyone truly willing to do this work for the wages offered, showing up on time and sober on a daily basis, post your contact information here and I will guarantee you will find employers.   Last, keep in mind that every person in the USA (yes, except for native americans) was an immigrant at some point in their lineage.

I have to say I think this article is horrible.  First you lead with an amazing statistic of 89%.  Wow, if this company employed more then 50 people that would be amazing, but they don't so its pure sensationalism. Second, the article is clearly trying to call out the business owner as some sort of bad guy.  The real discussion should be if all the people of Colorado are ready to pay $5 a gallon for milk so that their precious belief that they are better then someone willing to go through hell to get here just to work for what is probably less then $8/hr (if you shop at whole foods already, no need to respond as I already know how high your nose is in the air).

• For you folks defending the poor farmers who MUST hire illegals, I say "baloney"! The fact is that while once the majority of illegals worked in agriculture, today, more 90% are employed in what used to be decent paying blue collar jobs (somewhere between 20-25% are in CONSTRUCTION) - and the cost of labor in food is in the vicinity of 5-6% of the retail price. Most of us would be happy to pay an extra nickel or dime per dollar to make sure that LEGAL workers (citizens or not) have the jobs. The argument that illegal workers keep the cost of food down is almost as specious as suggesting that they keep the cost of HOUSING down! What they do keep down is taxes (for the employer - who often is withholding NEITHER the employee NOR the employer portion of payroll taxes). As far as the fact that these workers pay taxes on purchases - so bloody what. If they are paying income and payroll taxes it is on somebody else's ID - and it takes an act of God for those folks to "clear their names" when the IRS comes after them for tax evasion - but I'm sure you'd be happy to publish YOUR SSNs for an illegal to use. Finally - I fed up with the bs argument that only liberals are "on the side" of illegals - REAGAN passed the last amnesty, and George W Bush (along with McCain as part of a bipartisan coalition) attempted to pass another one. Most of us "worker bees" - right, left or center - are fed up with businesses using illegal workers (and with constant offshoring) to maximize profits while whining about how we workers are the root cause of all this - instead of admitting that THEIR GREED is the root cause!

With so many legal Americans out of work and desperate for a job, I have seen people that hold an MBA working at Burger King, a carpet cleaning business owned by a good freind of mine employs a former electircal enigineer and my former neighbor when I was in college, once a small business owner now works at a gas station making about 15% what he used to. That's three examples of legal Americans doing whatever it takes to get by. • Employers of illegal immigrants know they are employing illegals. If the usa wants to curb this then the employers need to be prosecuted because they are the real problem. The federal government has a system in place that any employer can use to verify whether or not someone can legally work in the usa. Failing to prosecute employers of illegals shows employers there are no adverse consequences for employing illegal immigrants, only benefits of increased revenue as a result of cheap, black market tax free labor.

• Does nobody else bother to question how exactly a gallon of milk at King Soopers costs half as much as a gallon of unleaded at the gas station in their parking lot? It's hard to turn a profit AND qualify for any "best places to work" list in the Dairy biz. The fact is that the vast majority of our commercially-available foods have to be produced at the lowest possible cost just to remain competitive in this era of cheap foods. Technological advancements can make certain improvements in food production, but nothing's cheaper than good old fashioned dirt-cheap human labor.

• Deport them all today and move to the next business that does this. Oh and fine the hell out of the business owners along the way.
