12 dog-stabbing incidents in recent months -- and at least a dozen shmucks

Diamond.
Earlier this week, Matthew Weatherspoon was charged with stabbing a five-month-old bulldog puppy named Diamond after the dog nipped him. He is then accused of tossing the dog out of his apartment, where it was later discovered and taken to an animal hospital. Unconscionable? Yes. But sadly, Weatherspoon is not alone.

Just two days later, somebody tied a German shepherd to a tree in Colorado Springs and stabbed it to death with a large blade.

And that's just the beginning of our list of dog-stabbing shmucks. Here are ten others culled from just the last few months of headlines around the country.

In San Diego, someone stabbed a nine-month-old German shepherd more than fifty times during the middle of the night. The dog died.

In San Francisco, a man who was walking his dog allegedly stabbed a dog that was being walked by a woman in the same park. The woman had asked the man if his dog was neutered, witnesses said. The dog lived.

In New Haven, Connecticut, a man who stabbed his own dog, a Stafforshire terrier mix, 29 times was found competent to stand trial. He had told police that people were bothering him about the dog and that he had family problems. The dog is still hospitalized.

In Norwalk, Connecticut, a police dog was stabbed while trying to defend a police officer from a man who had two knives. The dog wasn't fatally injured.

In Washington State, a police dog was stabbed and killed after tracking down a suspect in a stolen car case.

In Wichita, Kansas, a 23-year-old woman stabbed her sister's dog, a terrier, because she was upset with her boyfriend. The dog lived, after surgery.

In Louisville, Kentucky, a woman was arrested and charged with stabbing a dog to death with a Samurai sword after she found it playing with a nearly dead cat.

In St. Bernard, Louisiana, a man was accused of stabbing his dog in the throat with a sword and then beating it after it went to the bathroom in his house.

In Sacramento, California, a sixteen-year-old boy allegedly stabbed the family dog, a Labrador retriever, and then fought with and injured to police officers. The dog survived.

In Detroit, a 54-year man was charged with stabbing the family dog to death after he got into an argument with his wife.

Talk about a parade of shmucks.

And you only call them shmucks?!?  I can think of several much stronger words to call them (although, looking at the definitions, it does fit).  What I would love to hear about them is that they are hospitalized and jailed for what they did!!  Unfortunately, in most cases, dogs are considered 'property', so they probably won't get much more punishment than if they had damaged a car or fence.  Who cares if they have a life & some who consider them part of the family?  As for those who've already commented, I saw a few that didn't make much sense:  To Ad, your comparison doesn't make much sense, since we don't eat dogs here!!  And to Phen375: what WOULD be a good, ethical reason to torture a dog (or any creature, for that matter)?!?

Schmuck for those who might not know - in its worst connotation a schmuck is a contemptible person.  I think we can all agree that these stabbers and slicers and murderers are schmucks.

no its not.

Schmuck is a Yiddish term, it means PENIS.

look it up Gail Johns.

I took it upon myself to look it up:

schmuck –noun Slang .an obnoxious or contemptible person.

Yes, literally it does mean "penis" in Yiddish, but it's just like calling someone a "dick" or an "asshole."

Get over yourself, Ad..

I guess etymology and getting to the root of idioms is passe, in this social networking robot culture.

I hate to see human torture dogs without any reasons.... Not ethical...

"Without any reasons".

Like if a Dog holds nuclear secrets or knows where a terrorist is hiding its ok though right?

He is prabably referring to the Korean or Oriental diffinition there Ad.  Many Cultures in the Asian pacific area believe intentionally torturing them as long as possible and insuring their death is as agonizaingly slow as possible insure a good meat.  As for torture?  If a man is tortured to reveal secrets that will save, say, a few thousand lives (9-11) than I suppose thats more ethical than the bordom torturing of an animal with no intent to harm or future likelyhood to harm......But that depends on how mature your general capacity to reason is

Example:  Me deciding to kill your mother by running her car off the road and using a bat to finish the job.

Or a dog barking at you from an inclosed fence on its owners property.

If you have trouble seeing the greater intent to evil there your prabably in the wrong country and wrong planet.  Different cultures use different moral compasses and all.

I wonder how many Pigs and Cows were slaughtered during that time for human consumption?

Hypocrites.

As long as we're off on this tangent - check out the BBC series 'Kill It, Cook It, Eat It'.  It will really open your eyes as to how meat gets to your dinner table.  Eric, it does show humane ways to kill the animals - I wish all slaughterhouses followed their examples.  No reason for the animal to suffer.

a great way to still eat meat the right way is buy local raised meat from organic farmers :)

What does that have to do with someone purposely torturing an animal?

You've made a lot of smart-ass comments that did garner some attention, but to what purpose?

If you're saying that because animals are killed for human consumption, people who eat meat are being hypocritical should they criticize "little vick" for torturing a 6 month old puppy, you are, in short, an idiot.

Myself, I'm an advocate for humane methods concerning processing. We do eat meat in this society, but there's no excuse for any animal to die in terror, in pain, confused and injured. Things are still bad, but getting better. Legislation in the last 50 years has forced plants to adopt more decent methods, and as long as there are Democratic lawmakers willing to sponsor and vote on humane bills, things will improve over time.

The best way to stop slaughterhouse abuse is to stop eating meat, but that's still a stretch, given the social norm here.

Another social norm in this country is treating domestic pets like dogs on a higher level than as a food source.

Weatherspoon's finding that out now, as he's been charged, as he should be.

Comparing eating meat to what weatherspoon did is childish and there must be some other motivation driving your posts.

Why are you knee jerk defending this pondscum?

What's your agenda?

And drop your "schmuck" definitions. You're making yourself the fool on two different topics.

Ugh :(  The only thing worse than that is "12 dog-stabbing incidents in recent months -- and at least a dozen shmucks high on medical marijuana"

vnokes80212
vnokes80212

I'm not sure why you're bringing medical marijuana into this... unless you think that someone using it will do things like this?!?  Educate yourself, please, before you spout off thinking like this.  I highly doubt someone who is high on marijuana will do something like this.  It's much more likely that they are on other drugs (pcp, meth, coke, heroin, X, prescription pain killers, etc etc etc), have a chemical imbalance, are drunk, or are just plain psychotic.  IF they are on something, what's stopping them from going after humans instead of animals?!?  AND, just because someone is on something, doesn't make it right that they do something like this, or an excuse as to why they did what they did.  Certain drugs bring out existing behaviours in people, not something that wasn't there to begin with, and I'm tired of people using excuses that 'they weren't in their right frame of mind', or 'weren't sober'. UGGHHHH!!!!
