Ask William Breathes, Westword's pot critic, anything until 4:20 today

William Breathes
Westword editor Patricia Calhoun left for vacation today. Predictably, the Westword office has deteriorated into a orgy of journalistic decadence. Beer is flowing like printer ink, and smoke is blowing through the HVAC.

Music editor Dave Herrera brought out his turntables and is doing his best to mix Slayer and UB40 at top volume. Interns have locked themselves in a closet, and there are animal sounds coming from the conference room. Police are already knocking on the door and the Ghetto Bird is hovering over the roof of the building.

None of that actually has happened. But I do have until 4:20 to answer questions from you, my cannabis friends. Leave your question or comment in the comments section and I'll reply to it the best I can.

So tell me what is on your THC-addled brain, dear Westword readers. I would love to hear it.

- Got a good dispensary worth checking out or a place to avoid?
- Smoked any interesting genetics lately?
- Wondering what strains might be good for you?
- Or, just let us know if we're not covering enough of here at Mile Highs and Lows.

Leave your comments or questions below and I'll respond as soon as I can between now and when I'm forced back to the basement -- where they keep me until they need me for another medical marijuana clinic critique.

If you can't keep it civil, go smoke a bowl. That usually helps.

What news strains are you excited about?

Have you considered conducting reviews of independent caregivers, as opposed to dispensaries?

You should check out Tender Healing Care on Santa fe dr across the street from the King Soopers. I think they have some great bud. but I'm no pot reviewer.

Any interest in joining Gil and myself on a vid reviewing a few of the Clinic'c newest strains and doing demos of some of the new Heady Glass apparati that we're carrying?

How about recommending a couple of your favorite head shops around town?

William Breathes

okay...

I love the custom, amazing work going on at Heady Glass (I'm working on a glass blower profile right now, actually), but also think the folks at Illusion Glass on Broadway are the top of the game too. I buy my papers at Myxed Up Kreations on Colfax -- my favorite Juggalo-owne business. I've also heard great things about Mad Hatters, too. I've not gone shopping in boulder much, but heard that the fitter will kick you out for using the word 'bong'. While I"m at it, i'll give a shout out to my friends at The BC Smoke Shop in Austin and Aqualab Tech in California -- both well worth checking out as well. Also, there's a lot of killer artists (Trikky comes to mind off the top of my head) around Colorado, and you can find their work at a lot of shops around the state.

I'm always looking for new shops and amazing artists: Got any suggestions?

Heady Glass is for fucking chumps that like to overypay for glass. They are mark up kings. Plus the owner is a dick. I would never step foot in that store again.

I would order from Aqualab anyday over going to Heady Glass.

As a patient who has tried lots of edibles with little or no effect, yes.

Apologies for saying where I go to get a strong edible?

Where do you get quality edibles from?

Have you ever been in the CDS / THE HEALTH CENTER at the corner of Amherst and Colorado Blvd? If so what are your thoughts on your visit?

William Breathes

I have not been to that CDS yet. I have been to the one on downing and park ave, but have yet to review it.

Would love to have you go down to the Colorado Blvd location and get your feedback.

Why are people still not testing EVERYTHING?

William Breathes
William Breathes

well, that's a tough one. partially I think it's because of the money.. the other thing is that while testing is nice to have, it isn't necissarily the most accurate science yet:

http://blogs.westword.com/late...

so while potency testing is still an inexact science depending on how you test, I do think we should have meds tested for mold, pesticides and mildew though.

What is ur favorite strain and dispensary

William Breathes
William Breathes

My favorite all time strain is probably Super Silver Haze.

My favorite dispensary changes all the time.

Check out Grassroots Grown's SSH. It is KILLER man. They have a lot of good strains.

I am so adamant about Grassroots because I have been to a lot of other dispensaries and hate going to them because they almost always talk down to you, act like you know nothing and act better than you. This is one of the most comfortable, relaxing and friendly places I have been to. How else are patients supposed to spread the word about good dispensaries? The crap ones need to go away already!

You should do more reviews on concentrates. There are so many floating around Denver and 80% of them are shit! Most of them are not that potent and have contaminants left in them! Please do more reviews about ACTUAL good quality extracts. There are plenty of places with this.

Agreed.  I have tried Cheeba Chews and they seem to consistently do the job.  Warning-eating a 4x Cheeba Chew by yourself may leave you overmedicated.  Just saying.

Other edibles I tried have been hit or miss.  Would love to know other medibles with consistant dosages.

By concentrates I meant hash, hash oil, earwax, etc....

Cheeba Chews are not that potent to me. I eat the whole thing at a time and it doesn't really hit me that hard. I have had better success with Grassroots Grown's gingersnap cookies than I have with anything else! I cannot wait until next week when they are back in stock.

William Breathes

Will do, though I've tried for the last six months to include at least one concentrate from each shop in my review..

any suggestions?

Check out the Kindman near 38th & Elati.  Located in industrial area but genuine quality Bubba Kush for $180/ounce.

MedMob

Sweetleaf Compassion Center and Kind Meds are two dispensaries that will be well worth your time. Check them out as soon as you can. Thanks in advance!

this is fun, thanks for participating folks.

I've only got another half-hour before they lock me away for the week... anything else?

You should check out Grassroots Grown near 38th and Tennyson! They have a super friendly staff and really nice selection of top quality medicine.

Would you consider reviewing some medicine grown by caregivers?  Maybe have one week a quarter dedicated to caregiver-grown medicine.  There are lots of patients who do not or can not visit dispensaries.  Pretty sure most of the A bud doesn't make it to public shelves at the dispensaries.  But there sure is some fantastic marijuana being passed around the home poker games.

Not sure how to make it work due to state laws that are ever changing.  I will be testing two stains at FSL this month and several others will test their strains.  Any additional knowledge is always helpful to patients.

Okay, this is something I've been trying to figure out how to do for sojme time. I've even been in talks with Danky McDankelsworth of 303Organics.com about doing just this...

I'm just not sure how to go about it.... I guess i could have CG's drop herb off at Westword....

I would like to see more CG herb  for sure though. thanks for bringing this up.

Whoever

That would be pretty slick, reviewing some local CG's. A related question; have you found anything in a disp, post 1284, that could compare with the quality you get from you're CG?

William Breathes
William Breathes

I don't see anyone put up quality like my CG, other CG's included. My CG is the fucking Yoda master of growing herb, and I'm not just saying that because he's my CG.

but yes, I see some good herb post 1284 in shops.

I think the idea that all basement growers produce the best herb is kindof absurd. I've seen what's being offered on Craigslist, and some of it is no better than warehouse-grown dispensary herb.

Yes, 1284 shut out a lot of good growers from growing from clinics, but there's plenty good growers who still grow for dispensaries.

If you opened a dispensary, what would you call it? Who do you think has the best name right now?

William Breathes
William Breathes

I would call it "Club Awesome".

I think the best shop name is anything with "high" "mountain" or "wellness" in the name.

Do you think the 'Regulate Marijuana like Alcohol" proposition has a legitimate chance of passage? Also do you feel that mainstream media (Denver Post, 9News,7News, CBS4) coverage of marijuana tends toward reefer madness and yellow journalism?

William Breathes
William Breathes

I really can't say, though their poll numbers seem to show that it can. I think it really depends on how reasonable it appears to the moderate voters out there and what any other proposals may look like down the line.

I think the Denver media tends to play it safe when it comes to marijuana. Some of their coverage is great and fair, others tends to lean towards the more traditional 'scary' crime stories. Not that that matters, as I'm sure you ONLY read Westword.   ;)

Cali's Harborside Health is getting their own reality series on Discovery. If you had to watch a dispensary reality show, which Colorado center would be the subject?

William Breathes
William Breathes

Awesome question.

Personally, I would like to see how some of the smaller town dispensaries play into their local communities. It would be interesting to see a profile on shops in Telluride or Steamboat for example.

William Breathes
William Breathes

as for one here? I dunno... probably one of the more crazy, sketchy shops  -- we all love train wrecks on reality TV.

Whats your take on the fighting between the cannabis activists in Colorado?

William Breathes
William Breathes

good one, and one I normally don't touch with a ten-foot pole. So today i'll give you my five-foot pole answer:

I think that seeing as how we are so far out from the 2012 elections, I would like more effort and time spent crafting workable initiatives and less spent trying to drag down other groups.
