Although the Westminster Police recently staged a drug enforcement checkpoint, most under-the-influence crashes still tend to involve alcohol. The arrest of Department of Corrections officer Jason Ulrich is a case in point: He tested at more than triple the standard for drunkenness following a crash into a car occupied by the Price family that left one member fighting for his life.

The incident reportedly took place at about 9:05 a.m. this past Saturday on East Smoky Hill Road. Ulrich, 38, is said to have been traveling at 75 miles per hour in a 45 MPH zone when he smashed into a Honda Pilot occupied by Jonathan and Diane Price and their two-year-old daughter.

Fortunately, Diane and her little girl sustained only minor injuries. But Jonathan wasn't so fortunate. His laundry list of injuries include a lacerated kidney and spleen, four broken ribs and a broken femur. As late as yesterday, he was still in serious condition at a local hospital.

According to the Aurora Police Department, Ulrich registered a .252 blood alcohol content following the collision -- in excess of three times the .08 legal limit. The APD is also testing for drugs in his system, but those results aren't back yet.

Ulrich was arrested for vehicular assault related to both alcohol and reckless driving -- both felonies. Look below to take a larger look at his booking photo.
