Reader: Westword makes stupid jokes while economy's collapsing, war rages on

Yesterday's post about the top 10 things you shouldn't call the cops to help you find -- prompted by a Greeley woman who told police her misplaced TV remote had been stolen -- didn't strike some readers as a laugh riot. Indeed, one saw it and other recent attempts at humor as indefensible given the current state of the world.

DB writes:

Another great day in journalism. This wasn't even funny. Seriously, Westword, please remember you are one of two print publications left in this proud City and you keep getting dumber and dumber and dumber. You constantly tear down the other publication, and in it's place, the past three days Westword's exercise of its First Amendment franchise has included a lengthy first-person report on how Ikea is really busy on the second Saturday it's open, followed by another Pulitzer winner about the long wait at the DMV and now this, whatever it is.

Meanwhile, the economy is teetering on collapse, a local soldier died in the deadliest day in the war in Afghanistan, a billionaire who funded the Tea Party and Swift Boat Veterans for Truth is killed in Aspen, and not a single Westword reporter has lifted a finger to write about any of it so far. Whatever happened with the mayor's hooker allegations? I don't know. Westword doesn't either despite all its innuendo and sophomoric jokes. I'm not just being snarky here. I'm fed up with this garbage journalism -- in the only other supposedly unbiased newspaper in town. I'm fed up with the important stories you nor the Post are covering. No ideas for real journalism? To the right of this story is an ad by the ASPCA about starving and abandoned animals. Has this economy made it worse? Will government funding cuts hurt shelters and make the problem worse? There you go. A good and important story less than an inch and half from your stupid waste of manpower on ... shit, I don't even know what you would call this.

What have you got in store for tomorrow, song dedications to your favorite public figures? I dedicate "Disco Duck" to Westword. See? Anybody can be stupid and corny.
