Marquez Jones identified as victim in shooting near 8th and Lincoln (27)

Early Saturday morning, a woman was slain near the Denver Rescue Mission. Then, just over 24 hours later, Marquez Jones, 24, was shot in the vicinity of 8th and Lincoln -- and the Denver coroner's office has just confirmed that he died.

"Early Sunday morning, about 2:30 a.m., we got a report of a shooting near 8th and Lincoln," says Denver Police Department spokesman Sonny Jackson. "Two groups appear to have gotten into an argument, and a male party was shot. He was transported to the hospital in very critical condition."

Jones was declared dead around 11:45 a.m. yesterday morning.

Two suspects were arrested in the wake of the shooting. Thus far, the DPD hasn't released their identity or particulars. But Jackson confirms that the incident is "under investigation as a homicide."

Update, 11:43 a.m. September 19: Looks like the Marquez Jones murder still needs solving. The Denver Police Department has just confirmed that the two suspects arrested in the wake of the fight that led to Jones's slaying have been released.
