Photos: #OccupyWallStreet on the steps of the Colorado State Capitol

Staying Anonymous on the steps of the capitol on Saturday.
About 200 people brought their voices to the steps of the Colorado State Capitol, starting at noon on Saturday for the Denver version of the Occupy Wall Street ongoing protest that originated -- where else -- on Wall Street in New York. Photos continue below.

The demonstration on Saturday focused, judging by the call-and-response chants, on the financial sector's influence over domestic economic policy. The signs below tell the rest of the story.

Why hide your face with a mask or bandanna? Don't be cowardly when fighting for your freedom.

Thank you for covering this. I'm a social worker married to a firefighter. We can't afford health insurance premiums. We are the 99%.

People hide their faces with bandanas or Guy Fawkes masks because at many of these protests in Denver (and around the world) there are plainclothes cops taking pictures of the crowd. Either way, it is unknown why these people are taking photos of protestors and it is unclear who they work for and where these photos end up. Therefore, protestors stopped taking chances and started disguising themselves so they can't be held liable for something at a later date. During the WTO riots, police were photographing license plates. During the Scientology protests, police (and private investigators) were photographing and videotaping the crowd, the parking lots, the ATMS, everything. It has nothing to do with being cowardly, it has everything to do with protecting your identity, your property and your family.

Better yet, some torches and pitchforks.

Protip: Ditch the Guy Fawkes masks already. All you're doing is looking like a tool, and enriching the pockets of Time Warner in the process...
