Deborah Sherman's departure from 9News powers up the rumor mill

Deborah Sherman.
Yesterday, Patti Dennis, news director at 9News, sent an e-mail to staff informing them that correspondent Deborah Sherman, who'd been at the station for nearly a decade, was no longer an employee -- and assistant news director Tim Ryan declines to add details. This dearth of info is leading to speculation about her departure and whether it was connected to her reporting about accusations earlier this year linking Mayor Michael Hancock to paid escorts.

Back in June, Complete Colorado published an article tying Hancock, then in the midst of his mayoral campaign. to the Denver Players prostitution ring that spelled doom for Judge Edward Nottingham. Included in the piece was a log sheet that listed a "John" referred to as "Mike Handcock," a payment amount of $275, the notation "Wrks4City" and his cell-phone number. Hancock, who was previously a Denver city councilman, denied any wrongdoing, with his campaign calling such allegations smears.

The story eventually faded away -- but it's gotten a boost this week thanks to numerous appearances on Peter Boyles's KHOW talk show by Scottie Ewing, a former principal in Denver Players who eventually identified himself as the source of the information and document.

What's that got to do with Sherman? She's the journalist who first tied Denver Players to Judge Nottingham back in 2008. And this past June, Ewing told us she had been looking at his records since the previous November. Moreover, she was still covering the beat as recently as November 7, when she reported about Denver Players madam Brenda Stewart's sentencing for 9News.

Unsurprisingly, Sherman's fate prompted a conspiracy theory on Boyles's program this morning -- the suggestion being that she was disappeared for continuing to push the Hancock story. And that's not the only wild rumor circulating right now.

Sherman -- who was also a central figure in a Westword feature about Dr. Louis Hampers, a doctor who admitted to writing hundreds of bogus prescriptions -- has always been a lightning rod for controversy. And that remains true even though her association with 9News has ended.

Don't worry, ladies and germs. Scotty Ewing has offered her a job.

It's karma. She tried to ruin so many lives over nothing and got enjoyment out of it. She is nothing more than a walking piece of garbage who still deserves worse for ruining the lives of many by trumping on minor transgressions, which pale in comparison to her own foibles on sex web sites. Good riddance to the bitch  -- and get out of Denver. No one wants you here, you POS.

Rumor has it that she's going to start her own "troubleshooter" service in the wake of Tom Martino's bankruptcy -- to be called ...."Debbie Does Denver" ...

... stay tuned, more @ 9 ...

Allamony - although a bit coarse - has it right.  9News is so busy trying to act like our all-knowing older siblings that they've forgotten that there is an infinite amount of news to report.  I used to think Dyer and Shapiro were the worst, and may well be the goofiest duo of the local morning reporting, but they pale in comparison to Christensen and Koebrick in the afternoon.  Listening to their inane chatter and unsolicited commentary is worse than having fingernails pulled with pliers.  And when they express their great pleasure about their partners at the Denver Post, I have to suppress an immediate need to throw up.

It would be great to get a reaction quote from Dean Singleton, Greg Moore. Or even better yet Chris Vanderveen of 9news. Also it would be nice to hear something from Captain Steven Carter with the Denver Police Special Investigation Unit. Award winning journalists are calling his unit, at best, incapable of doing their job. Dosen't he have a comment on that?

6 Edward R. Murrow awards and 10 Emmys in under 10 years and she just goes POOF and disappears. Something stinks in Denmark. I hope she surfaces at a news organization that has the backbone and cajones to print what she uncovered. The Denver Post, 9 News and Channel 7 all have this story including video of two prostitutes positively identifying Mayor Hancock as a customer. Makes me think there are media moguls in this city that are also on the john list.

9News is so frustrating. Over half the articles they publish are so hasty they appear to have been edited by a 3rd grader. Even well written articles, are so brief and and unfocused.

I made fun of Jace Larson once and told him that he was doing such good investigative work that he might even be able to get a real writing job, at Westword.

Of course, he wasn't, but that's beside the point.

They also LOVE to pat themselves on the back. Half of the shit they write about is prefaced with "9WantsToKnow recently embarked on a mission to save the world." NBC constantly cuts to these vanity clips of The Anchors and News People all laughing together, like they are some sort of fucking community treasure. Or they will print "articles" like "So and So in Fort Collins is 100 Hiring New Workers, Please Call this Number, You Can Thanks Us Later."

Which brings me to my next point.

The also love to use the space reserved for real news articles to print PSA's like "9News Discovers a Target is Closing, Employees from that store can Call These Stores to Transfer" ... ???? WTF is that ??? Or "Steak and Shake opens in Centennial." . The Steak and Shake article is just copy and pasted PR stuff from the Restaurant, its embarrassing.
