Medical marijuana banking and Sen. Pat Steadman on menu for MMAPA breakfast

Pat Steadman.
Love some wake-and-bake continental breakfast with a little marijuana politics on a Saturday morning? You're in luck.

Senator Pat Steadman will be speaking tomorrow at the new offices of the Medical Marijuana Assistance Program of America (MMAPA) for the nonprofit's open-house breakfast.

Steadman has been working with MMAPA founder Vincent Palazotto on a proposal that would earmark a portion of the medical marijuana patient registry fees for research and education, as well as to create a call center for patients in need of social services. Money would be distributed in the form of grants from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

"People who find out they have cancer and life-changing diseases, they aren't just asking, 'Where can I get a joint?'" Palazotto points out. "They're crying. It's rough. They need to be connected to a crisis path that allows them to get help."

Steadman has also been in discssions with various people around the state about starting a medical marijuana credit union of sorts to help ease some of the banking issues the community has been facing.

The breakfast is also a chance for MMAPA to show off its new offce space. The organization has joined up with about a half-dozen other medical marijuana enterprises -- including medical marijuana attorney Warren Edson, John Doe Radio, KUSH and Canna Labs -- to become tenants in a small office building just off Colorado Boulevard in south Denver.

"We joke that it's a one-stop shop for a raid. But really, it's been great," Palazotto says. "I mean, we started in a garage downtown. Now we feel like we're home."

And with a larger home comes more family. MMAPA was started in 2009 as a way of helping poor and indigent patients in Colorado get access to alternatives treatments and medicine and doctors who would prescribe them. The organization has since expanded its outreach services to patients in other medical marijuana states.

To service all those patients, Palazotto has brought on a new community-outreach program director as well as seven college interns to help with everything from office management to staffing events. "A lot of folks look at us and see the brand and see us at events, and they think we're bigger than we really are," he explains. "But it's really been just a core three or four folks who have been running this."

The MMAPA Town Hall Meeting and Breakfast Social will run from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. November 19 at the new MMAPA offices, 3888 East Mexico Avenue; it's open to all.

Senator Steadman sold out the patients with his support of 1284,and then sold out the caregivers with the caregiver registry requirement in 1043. If you are a husband trying to take care of your sick wife, why do you have to go through a background check and register with the DOR? The Constitution says nothing about this, but Sen. Steadman supported it all the way through as a concession to the greedy dispensary owners who wanted the "caregiver problem" taken care of. Steadman is a disgrace, and so is any organization that gives him any support.

Just want to point out that I am positive KUSH is not in this same building at all.  The hemp and MMJ friendly magazine that is though is The Hemp Connoisseur which is part of SOOP Media Group who also runs NexusMeds.   Additionally, it is CannLabs and not Canna Labs (no second "a").  Just like to make sure that things are in the clear.

Lastly, MMAPA IS an amazing organization and truly does care for the patient.  Vincent and his persistence for more indigent patient awareness is outstanding.

What an asinine idea -- steal more $$ from Patients and co-opt the already overpriced registry system to fund one clueless retard's corrupt self-serving vision of the Colorado MMJ industry.

Who are these imbeciles and why does anyone listen to them?

Vincent Palazotto is a clown, a thief, and a disgrace to the MMJ Movement. He and his partners have continued to use the indigent people to try to profit from this industry. This latest move is another ruse to further this agenda! I wish the Westword would quite trying to help this agenda!

Yeppers, let's get some CDPHE Grant money to MMAPA, so they can print up some more "Half Off $65. 1/8's" coupons for our indigent patients statewide!! Stedman is a disgrace to his GBLTQ consituency, who can't afford to register with the State, let alone afford real medical marijuana and other life saving cannabis therapys. Everyone can see the CDPHE hasn't been trusted to keep "self-sufficiency" millions from slipping away, in perversion of the Voters wishes Colorado Constitutional Law (Amend.20,& Article VIII, Sec.14).Tthe Rocky Mountain Caregivers Cooperativehttp://www.medmarijuana.meetup...

Why not visit:http://www.legalize2012.com to help bring real legalization to our state.  Don't be impressed by sad imitators trying to regulate marijuana like alcohol, and provide a tax base and jobs for the DOR Department of Revenue and law enforcement.

REAL Patients have been actively BOYCOTTING the MMJ REGISTRY "red card" program and Dispensary Model since July 1, 2011, the day the Confidentiality and Privacy of your MMJ Activities became eroded to an available federal database available to Social Security Administration, Veteran's Administration, Healthand Human Services, IRS, DEA, and other agencies with the click of a mouse button.

BOYCOTT a MMJ System in Colorado which does not want you to grow your own, but be forced to go to State-sanctioned dispensaries where you can easily get SUBSTANDARD MMJ for $25. An 1/8oz., Plus Tax, or $45.-65. & UP, PLUS TAX, 1/8's of premium MMJ, which are sure to leave your Finances Waning and The Patient left wanting more....for Relief!   These Dispensaries have already made MILLIONS of DOLLARS in profuts and have NOT been good neighbors in our communities!  Indigent Patients statewide SUFFER more now than ever before.  While the indigent poor are sometimes left with 'Half Off' coupons for MMJ at half off, as an indigency program, even fewer have the financial resources to participate.  Amendment 20 was passed by our voters in 2000 with COMPASSION inMind.  Free Red Cards and over-priced Dispensary Medicine is NOT HEALING OUR NATION, SORRY.

Organizations have left the indigent OUT of the Equation, yet ask businesses to pay upwards of $25,000.00 or more yearly to represent their interests with government and the legislature.  WHO among them represents US?  Yep, you answered correctly if you said none of them.

Embrace your Colorado Constitutional Rights as a patient under Article 18 Sec. 14, where you can rely on your affirmative defense with "A" doctor's signature, and no reference to registering with the State of Colorado!  Embrace your statewide COMMUNITY to be part of and develop Legal Patient Collectives, as has been identified through the private social networking efforts of THE COLLECTIVE ADVANTAGE.                         (http://www.thecollectiveadvant... ).  Join Today for FREE.  A wide range of Collective development services are available, so YOU can build your own community.  STAY LEGAL!  STAY PROTECTED!  KEEP REASONABLE ACCESS! And, most importantly, Keep the Government OUT of your medicine cabinet.

What a vomitous menu!

"Steadman has been working with MMAPA founder Vincent Palazotto on a proposal that would earmark a portion of the medical marijuana patient registry fees for research and education, as well as to create a call center for patients in need of social services", but Colorado's Constitution (Article XVIII, Section 14 (3) (i)) states:  "The state health agency may determine and levy reasonable fees to pay for any direct or indirect administrative costs associated with its role in this program" and C.R.S. 25-1.5-106 states:  "(3) (a) The medical marijuana program cash fund shall be subject to annual appropriation by the general assembly to the department for the purpose of establishing, operating, and maintaining the medical marijuana program established by section 14 of article XVIII of the state constitution. All moneys credited to the medical marijuana program cash fund and all interest derived from the deposit of such moneys that are not expended during the fiscal year shall be retained in the fund for future use and shall not be credited or transferred to the general fund or any other fund" -- in case it is not abundantly plain, research, education, and call centers cannot reasonably be construed to be either direct or indirect administrative costs of the program (the purpose of the program being simply the registration of patients whose doctors have recommended their use of cannabis).

At the last meeting of the BOH, I called upon the Board to direct the CDPHE to refund the approximately eight million dollars ($8,000,000) now in the fund to the patients who have been being grossly overcharged.  What has not already been stolen by the General Assembly or wasted by the Department should rightfully be returned to those from whom it was exacted (the stolen funds should be too).  Steadman and Palazotto have no right to propose any other use for monies in "the medical marijuana program cash fund" than what the Constitution and C.R.S. specify, and the accumulation of a surplus of millions of dollars (due to the CDPHE's incompetence and the impunity with which it has been allowed to operate) demands immediate redress to the patients the State has been gouging for a decade in the form of appropriate refunds.  Will no one sue for the return of the enormous, ill-gotten surplus?

The financial, political and legal best interests of Patients/Private Caregivers are in direct CONFLICT with those of the greedy, for-profit, big $$ retail dispensary industry, and their co-dependent pimp-daddy the Department of REVENUE, Medical Marijuana CRIMINAL ENFORCEMENT Division.

Too bad the politically naive and stoned patients didn't grasp this reality back in 2008 before they were co-opted by foolish propaganda into supporting the Big $$ Dispensary Lobby -- and the massive "regulation and taxation" that accompanied it -- all against the patients' / private caregivers' own self-interests.

Political suicide accomplished!

Imagine cancer patients being dumb enough to support and rally for BigPharma ...

Not only is Steadman a sell-out and tool of the Big $$ Dispensary Lobby, but so are most -- if not all -- of the marijuana attorneys and marijuana law firms who now represent the better paying for-profit big $$ dispensaries ... to the direct detriment, harm and conflict of their individual patient/caregiver clients.

Boycott any Law Firms that represent the Big $$ Dispensaries, they are not your friends.

Boycott the optional CDPHE "red card" registry. Amendment 20 does not require the registration of a Physician Referral to be protected -- the physician referral by itself is all that is required..

Maybe you could pull up your silly pot doctor trailers, and see if you can steal some more $$$ from the people!

Boycott the optional and corrupt CDPHE registry, boycott overpriced, greedy, for-profit retail dispensaries and their Dept. of REVENUE pimp-daddy ... join a NON-profit Co-Op and use Private Individual Caregivers!

Occupy Colorado MMJ !!

The MMJ Industry attorneys won't dare take any action against the best interests of their new cash-cow corporate clients -- greedy retail dispensaries.

Naive Patients and Private Caregivers have been manipulated and pimped by the Big$$ Retail Dispensary Cartel, their Dept. of REVENUE masters, and the lawyers/lobbyists who duped and played the patients/caregivers for the fools that they are.

Medical marijuana was once fun in Colorado.  The pot clowns have taken all the fun out of it with their long winded rules about not having fun while getting high anymore.
